There’s plenty of fun to be had inside an 824-square foot bar. Since 1994, Cubbyhole has been a comforting second home for New York’s LGBTQ+ community, and lesbians in particular. Beloved owner Tanya Saunders ran the historic West Village space—with its kitschy decor, cozy stools, and fabulous jukebox—until her death in 2018, when longtime bartender and manager Lisa Menichino took over. Menichino calls Cubbyhole “a haven to gather in amity, conviviality, and acceptance”—the perfect spot for StyleCaster's 2023 Visibility Issue cover shoot. “Cubbyhole will always belong to its LGBTQ+ family,” she says. “They are the beat in its heart.”
