DÉCOR VS. STANDING SEAM METAL
THE RACE FOR APPEARANCE AND PERFORMANCE SUPREMACY
Metal roofing led the way by turning a traditionally bland, boring part of the building into a feature worth highlighting. But beware as metal is notorious for expanding and contracting, which may cause bucking or “oil canning.”
Using Sika’s time-proven Sarnafil G410 roof membrane with the patented Décor profile rib simulates the look of a metal roof. The ribs can be spaced at any distance apart, in any configuration and in contrasting colors for a truly customizable experience.
On simple, straightforward buildings with few to no areas requiring metal to be flashed, metal panels can be a cost-effective solution. Unfortunately, many of today’s buildings have numerous areas that need to be flashed, such as roofline transitions, penetrations, valleys and dormers. Flashing metal is labor intensive, difficult to keep watertight and requires an additional waterproofing layer in these critical areas, adding to the system cost.
Décor’s Sarnafil membrane is flexible and easy to work with, which makes flashing a breeze. Because the seams are hot-air welded to maintain watertight integrity, an additional waterproofing layer is not necessary. All of these add up to labor and material savings.
DÉCOR
The Décor system, with a feltback Sarnafil membrane over a hard board and insulation, significantly limits the amount of noise transmitted through the roof.
It’s no secret that metal roofing can make things noisy for your building. Whether it’s workers on the roof or a simple rainstorm, metal roofs can make your interior sound like being “inside a drum.”
DÉCOR
With Décor, you are no longer held hostage by roof or building geometry. The continuous thermoplastic roof membrane and the hot-air welded seams of Décor provide a long-lasting waterproofing solution regardless of the building shape or design. The seams are stronger than the membrane itself, minimizing costly ongoing maintenance.
Metal roof panels on complicated roof lines, barrel shaped or low slopes are difficult to keep watertight. The expansion and contraction of metal can lead to leaks at roof details, resulting in costly repairs and time consuming roof maintenance.

DÉCOR
Décor Sarnafil membrane offers a long-lasting solution that does not rust or corrode. Also, you’ll get the peace of mind of watertight integrity with hot-air welded seams and permanent watertight flashing and detailing.
Metal roof panels can last a long time, but many metal roof systems need a waterproof layer under the panels in order to stay watertight. Caulks and mastics are also necessary at the penetration details, and these break down over time. In addition, lower quality coatings and paint finishes can lead to peeling paint or rust.
NOISE ISSUES
Décor is the ideal choice for new or existing buildings that call for the appearance of a metal roof, yet require maximum watertight performance. With an impressive combination of aesthetics, design flexibility, proven performance and lower cost, the Décor Roof System is the clear winner over standing seam metal.
