Sky Rainforest Rescue launched and later went on to protect 1 billion trees in the Amazon.

Sky Academy opened its doors to inspire young people. Since then, we’ve helped 250,000 students – and counting – gain storytelling skills and experience.

Sky acquired Sky Italia and Sky Deutschland. We also started making ambitious, original European film and TV, under the Sky Originals brand.

A new era for football began. Sky broadcasts exclusive live coverage of the Premier League for the first time.

The fight between Frank Bruno and Mike Tyson in Las Vegas was the UK’s first pay-per-view event. 600,000 people watched it live on Sky.

Our story starts here. We launched the UK’s first satellite TV service, with four free-to-air channels including Sky News, Europe’s first 24-hour news channel.
Sky Sports arrived, bringing the on-screen clock and score line for live football. They were the first of many innovations that transformed sports broadcasting.
1991
Sky Digital gave our customers over 140 live TV channels, with better picture quality and sound. We were the first UK broadcaster to embrace digital TV.
1998
For the first time in the UK, we enabled people to pause, rewind and record live TV, with Sky+.
2001
We launched Sky Broadband,
to keep people connected.
2006
Our Sky Go app arrived, enabling people to watch TV on their own devices. We launched Sky Atlantic, the home of HBO.
2011
We launched NOW TV, our first over-the-top streaming service, to reach a new group of customers.
2012
Sky Mobile shook up the market with the UK's most flexible phone service.

We pledged to go net zero carbon by 2030, kicking off our Sky Zero campaign to protect the planet. Our operations are powered by renewable energy, our engineers drive electric vans, our TV production is as sustainable as possible and we’re always looking for new ways to cut our emissions.
Sky Glass, our new streaming TV with Sky inside, changed the way we watch TV, all over again.

Sky Stream brought our streaming experience to anyone with a smart TV. We also launched Gigafast, our fastest Sky Broadband yet.
We launched Sky Protect, our new home insurance.

To raise awarness of plastic pollution in the ocean, we launched Sky Ocean Rescue. Our campaign reached 40 million people.

Sky Live gave people a new way to make the most of the big screen at the heart of their homes, offering better ways to chat, play, keep fit and watch TV together.

We created Sky Up, our Europe-wide initiative to help people fulfil their potential by giving them access to the internet and opportunities to build up their skills. Sky Up reaches 70,000 people every year.
