I used to work for a company that did work for Snap-on. Their facility burned down. They rebuilt and expanded and during that change, I was laid off. After speaking to a truck driver from that company, he told me that Snap-on Milwaukee was hiring. The next day, I went there, I didn’t fill it out online, I just walked in and talked to someone about a job. My favorite thing to do is get out work that needs to get out. For example, when something is “hot”, for me, I like to get those jobs out first. It brings me a different kind of joy to take out the work. I like the recognition, for me, it’s a big part, so when someone appreciates your doing a good job, that means a lot. I consider heat treat to be the backbone of the company. If the heat treat isn’t running, there is nothing to send to the customer. A lot of people can’t handle the heat, especially in the summer. A lot of things can go wrong. You always have to be careful, one mistake can cause a big problem. What would I tell to someone getting into the career? For anyone who would like to get into heat treatment, just try it! You have nothing to lose, and you’re going to learn something not a lot of people know how to do. I’ve brought 6 people into this field, family and friends.
