Suffolk Law’s pioneering Legal Practice Skills (LPS) Program marked its 50th anniversary on November 2. Regularly ranked among the top 5 such programs in the nation, the program has much to celebrate.
The 50th anniversary reception brought past and present LPS faculty, from the 1970s onward, to salute the extraordinary leadership of the program, which is known for tackling new, cutting-edge subjects, from teaching students about AI to preparing them for a new version of the bar exam.
The national recognition of Suffolk’s LPS faculty, year after year, is no surprise, said Dean Andrew Perlman, who called the program “the envy of the nation.”
Director of the LPS program Professor Kathleen Vinson, JD ’95, who has served in that role for 25 years, deserves special recognition for consistently reimagining the curriculum and offering students new tools to succeed as attorneys, Perlman said.
Earlier in the day, the New England Regional Legal Writing Conference met at Suffolk Law. That gathering, which Vinson co-founded in 2000, offers the legal writing community from New England and beyond a chance to share pedagogical ideas and experiments. This year’s conference featured numerous Suffolk Law LPS faculty who shared their expertise on timely issues, ranging from law student well-being to demystifying the technology behind AI tools like ChatGPT.
