Suffolk Law’s 2025 Patent Law Practitioner Study shows Suffolk graduates make up 25.7% of all patent attorneys at the state’s largest IP firms—more than the next two schools, Boston College and Harvard, combined—and hold more partner positions than any other school. Suffolk also accounts for over half of all PhD-holding patent attorneys in the Bay State’s largest firms.
In the IP transactions space, Suffolk Law’s IP students gain practical skills in U.S. Patent and Trademark Office practice through hands-on simulation coursework—from clearance searches to Office Action responses. This intensive exposure to day-to-day practice prepares students to hit the ground running in their careers, mastering skills typically learned only after students graduate from law school.
That strong preparation reflects an IP program ranked among the nation’s top 20 by National Jurist, with six full-time faculty and an IP clinic filing real patents and trademarks.
The study looked at patent law attorneys who work at the Boston Business Journal’s “Largest IP Law Firms in Massachusetts: Ranked by Mass. IP Lawyers.”
