Civil rights icon Harry Hom Dow, JD ’29, has been honored as part of a permanent installation near The Embrace statue at the 1965 Freedom Plaza on Boston Common. The Embrace celebrates the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and his wife, Coretta Scott King, and is accompanied by plaques listing the names of Boston civil rights leaders, including Dow’s.
In 1929, Dow became the first Chinese American admitted to the bar in Massachusetts. He advocated successfully for low-income people and immigrants throughout his career.
