alumni news
This issue of Suffolk University Magazine is a testament to the extraordinary generosity of the Suffolk community, and to the impact that generosity has on our students today.
Giving back takes many forms. For years, Suffolk students have benefited from the transformative philanthropy of the late Larry Smith, BSBA ’65, a Suffolk trustee who with his brother, Michael, BSBA ’61, ranks among the most impactful donors in University history. And then there are the hundreds and hundreds of donors who give back to Suffolk every year, providing a solid foundation of support that stretches for decades.
Alumni like Megan Tranfaglia, BSBA ’14, MBA ’15, not only donate to Suffolk but also share their time and expertise to mentor our students. This willingness to go the extra mile (and many more) is a Suffolk hallmark, one that inspired thoughtful alumni and friends to create new funds in honor of Tracey Riley, associate dean of faculty affairs and professor of accounting, and Jennifer Ricciardi, MEd ’95, who just retired as director of student financial services.
Whatever form it takes, giving back offers the same powerful reward—the sense among our alumni, faculty and staff, families, and community partners that they’re investing in something deeply gratifying: providing opportunity. As Dean of Students Emerita Nancy Stoll puts it, “I think Suffolk delivers on what it offers to students. In many cases, Suffolk actually expands the vision that students have of their own potential—they find it to be larger and more extensive than they ever thought it could be.”
Philanthropy and engagement with Suffolk offer alumni and friends a chance to help students reach their full potential. Please join us in this endeavor!
With best wishes,
