Because some of the biggest lessons can happen outside the classroom, every year Suffolk sends hundreds of students on immersive learning trips around the country and across the world. Multiple academic departments and student programs sponsor short-term travel opportunities, including the Center for Community Engagement (CCE); the Journey Leadership Program; the Center for Student Diversity & Inclusion; and the Global Gateway Program. The goal: Move students beyond their comfort zones and plunge them into new cultures, climates, and economies, driving home what they’ve been studying at Suffolk and expanding their sense of the world’s opportunities and its challenges. Some trips also incorporate service learning and leadership development, fostering “personal growth, intercultural learning, and a strong sense of civic responsibility, all while building lasting friendships with fellow students who share a passion for service and making a difference,” says CCE Director Trina Bryant.
