alumni news
Megan Tranfaglia, BSBA ’14, MBA ’15, was an overachiever at Suffolk, graduating summa cum laude with dual degrees in entrepreneurship and marketing before completing the Accelerated Master’s 4+1 program to obtain her MBA. She then leveraged her graduate degree to secure a prestigious marketing role at HPE Aruba Networking, where she focuses on global major and federal account strategies.
She didn’t achieve her success alone, however, benefiting along the way from career mentors who have given her trusted advice and opportunities. In that spirit, she decided to give back through Suffolk’s Ram Alumni Mentoring Program (RAMP), which matches alums with undergrads and graduate students to guide them through the transition into the working world. In 2021–22, she mentored Chloe Beaulieu, BSBA ’23, helping her jump-start her own marketing career at Gorton’s Seafood. Tranfaglia is also a Summa Society donor.
What qualities have you appreciated in the mentors that you’ve had?
I appreciate mentors who provide kind but honest feedback, push you outside of your comfort zone, and encourage personal and professional balance. The best mentors not only believe in your potential—but also help you see it for yourself.
What goals did you set with Chloe?
One of my biggest priorities was helping her build confidence in her skills and contributions. She reminded me a lot of myself at that stage—motivated, hardworking, and ambitious—but I also know how easy it can be to feel self-doubt early in your career. I wanted to help Chloe get ahead of any imposter syndrome because she was already someone I would have wanted on my team.
What have you learned through mentoring Suffolk students?
I’ve been consistently impressed with the students I’ve met, and it makes me excited for their future. It’s also been eye-opening to hear how COVID shaped students’ approaches to college and career planning, as well as how students are (or aren’t) using AI in their coursework. I’ve also noticed students don’t always realize how many unique paths exist within the marketing field. I’ve been able to introduce them to areas like business-to-business and account-based marketing, where there is a huge demand for talent.
What would you tell other Suffolk alumni who are considering becoming RAMP mentors?
This is an amazing way to stay engaged with Suffolk and its current students. Not only are you passing on knowledge and advice, but you are also able to reflect on your own journey and future goals—and often end up learning just as much from them as they do from you!
