law briefs
Suffolk Law clinical students are helping to reimagine access to justice across the United States through the Legal Innovation & Technology Lab’s Document Assembly Line project. Working alongside Legal Innovation & Technology (LIT) Lab faculty, court staff, and legal aid organizations, the future lawyers are crafting online guided interviews to help self-represented litigants complete essential court forms. From eviction appeals to restraining orders, these tools are lifelines for those navigating legal emergencies and everyday legal problems without attorneys. The project, which started in Massachusetts during the pandemic while courthouses were closed, is helping self-represented litigants in ten states with the help of grant funds from the State Justice Institute and a constellation of other funders, including state court partners.
