Suffolk Law’s Housing Discrimination Testing Program (HDTP) is taking the fight against housing discrimination across Massachusetts with a state-funded public service advertising campaign. The initiative, spearheaded by HDTP and its partners in the Fair Housing Alliance of Massachusetts, aims to educate citizens about their rights when using Section 8 housing choice vouchers.
The campaign, funded by the state’s Department of Housing and Community Development, was sparked in part by alarming findings from HDTP’s 2020 study, which found that 90% of undercover testers with vouchers faced discrimination in the Greater Boston metro area. The advertising effort seeks to combat illegal practices and ease pressure in an already challenging rental market.
Governor Maura Healey threw her support behind the campaign, stating, “We are committed to pursuing every available avenue to alleviate pressure on residents. With a mix of public education and increased enforcement, Suffolk Law is leading the charge to ensure fair housing for all.”
