As longtime jurists, Chief Municipal Court Judge Frank Caprio JD’65, HLLD’91 and retired Circuit Court Judge John Schlesinger JD’87 have made many difficult and life-changing judicial decisions. Given the gravity of their work, they would probably balk at being called TV stars—but they are. And now they’re being recognized for their broadcast work.
The syndicated television shows of the two alumni received Daytime Emmy nominations in 2021 in the Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program category. Caprio received a nod for his work on Caught in Providence, while Schlesinger’s show, The People’s Court, won for the category. Caprio is from Providence, Rhode Island, and Schlesinger is from Coral Gables, Florida.
Caprio’s compassionate judicial approach on Caught in Providence has struck a chord across the world, accruing billions of views on YouTube. On The People’s Court, Schlesinger serves as a legal commentator, analyzing cases with the presiding judge on the show, Marilyn Milian—who is also his wife.
Caprio founded Suffolk Law School’s Antonio “Tup” Caprio Scholarship Fund. The fund is designed for Rhode Island students who are committed to improving access to legal services.
