The office, which manages Boston’s first Civilian Review Board and an Internal Affairs Oversight Panel, has subpoena power to independently investigate complaints against police officers, including use-of-force matters.

Alexis Soares JD’21 was selected as the American College of Bankruptcy’s 2021 Distinguished Law Student of the First Circuit. The honor, given in alternate years, recognizes academic excellence, professional accomplishments, commitment to public service, and pro-bono efforts, along with extraordinary law school experience and familiarity with insolvency law. Soares is currently a first-year associate at Mintz.

Professor Dyane O'Leary, who directs the Law School's Legal Innovation and Technology concentration, is the first tenure-track female professor elected as a fellow of the College of Law Practice Management. The college's elected fellows are leaders who promote change in law practice. In 2021, she also was named to the Fastcase 50, which honors visionaries at the intersection of tech and law.

Paul A. Suttell JD'76 was named president of the Conference of Chief Justices for the 2021-22 session. Suttell began his service on the Rhode Island Supreme Court in 2003 and became chief justice of that court in 2009.
