We had this idea to design solar carports that, alongside rooftop solar, would help offset the store’s energy use. The Vista location was perfect. But then we got thinking — how can we reduce our consumption even more?

Work begins to reimagine and redesign the store. The goal? Build new ways to generate renewable energy while reducing the store’s consumption.
Spring 2020
Target team members and vendor partners work together to bring the project to life.

This project was incredibly complex, and Rachel and I didn’t do it alone. From the support of the local store team to our colleagues across Target HQ, I’m extremely proud of the thought the team put in to pulling it off.
The team adds the finishing touches to the store.
Spring 2021
The team reduces the store’s emissions from natural gas-powered to electric-powered HVAC.
The switch to CO refrigeration is completed. The team will use what they learned from this store to bring the natural refrigerant, which helps lower emissions, to our entire store chain by 2040.

The final redesigned store features more than 1,300 LED lights, which together cut 10% off its total energy bill.
