TD and TD FEF have given more than $7 million to Evergreen, the organization at the helm of Evergreen Brick Works, over the past 30 years.
This funding has helped Evergreen reimagine urban spaces and promote solutions towards sustainability in Toronto, Vancouver, and other places across Canada.
“
TD Friends of the Environment Foundation and Evergreen share a common purpose and a common sense of the importance of bringing community into green space — and creating more and better green space — in our towns and cities.
“It's not an overstatement to say that the impact of the sponsorship has really helped to unlock the potential of public spaces all across the country.”
The impact of TD Friends of the Environment Foundation (TD FEF)
TD FEF is a foundation supported by TD Bank Group that provides funding for grassroots, community based projects right across the country.
TD FEF has been involved with Evergreen since its inception, and TD has played a role in supporting the non-profit's work, too. In 2018, TD helped fund the TD Future Cities Centre at Evergreen Brick Works.
A redeveloped historic kiln building, it showcases solutions for inclusive and climate-ready cities, such as a geothermal heating and cooling system and a raised cavity floor to prevent flood damage.
"We see groups across the country learning from Evergreen and working collaboratively to have similar impacts,” said Carolyn Scotchmer, Executive Director, TD Friends of the Environment Foundation.
“By supporting Evergreen for more than 30 years, TD and TD FEF really help provide stability and ongoing resources required for this organization to continue its great work.
Evergreen’s work is so important because so many of us live in cities, and our connection to natural space in cities is really important to our overall quality of life.”

How Evergreen is working to help promote sustainability
Evergreen, founded in 1991, is a national non-profit that aims to transform public spaces in Canadian cities to help build a healthier future.
What started as a group of people planting trees in Toronto has since evolved into a nation-wide organization.
In 2010, Evergreen transformed a collection of deteriorating heritage buildings at the former Don Valley Brick Works into a showcase for green design and an award-winning public space.
Open year-round, Evergreen Brick Works welcomes more than 500,000 visitors annually to experience its public markets, participate in conferences and events, enjoy outdoor learning and nature play, and explore public art in the heart of Toronto’s ravine system.
Evergreen’s footprint expands beyond Evergreen Brick Works. The organization is supporting the development of climate-ready schools with the creation of Canada’s first in Milton, Ont., and has helped developed the Places4Wellbeing tool, a tool that aims to demonstrate how to transform public spaces in cities for the health and wellbeing of people.
Evergreen Brick Works also helps support the local economy: In 2024, Evergreen said its weekly farmers’ market contributed $7.4 million in economic impact.
