arrol Edmund knows a thing or two about internships at TD. Four years ago, while still in university, she began her career at the Bank as part of the TD Insurance Internship for Indigenous Peoples.
Edmund returned as a TD Insurance intern two more times during her studies for a total of three internships. After completing her Bachelor of Commerce degree in Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources, Edmund took on the role of Diversity Sourcing Partner – Indigenous Peoples at TD, where she connects external talent from Indigenous communities with employment opportunities at the Bank. She supports all lines of business in Canada and works with candidates from across different job levels.
As part of her role, Edmund works closely with recipients of the TD Scholarship for Indigenous Peoples. The TD Scholarship for Indigenous Peoples, created together with AFOA Canada – a not-for-profit led by Indigenous Peoples – is now entering its second year. Through the program, 25 scholarships are available to be awarded annually, worth up to $60,000 each over four years. Recipients are also provided with internship opportunities and an offer of full-time employment upon graduation.
"I became very passionate about being an advocate for Indigenous Peoples and I wanted to find some way to support and give back to the community in any way that I could," she says.
Through her internships at TD Insurance, Edmund had the opportunity to start figuring out her own role in reconciliation. She realized she wanted a career at the Bank and jumped at the opportunity to apply for her current position.
"I find the internship component of the scholarship program – especially while you're still a student – so important to professional development, but also your own identity development," she says.

Edmund helps prepare and match scholarship recipients with employment opportunities at TD.
"Ultimately, I want to be the person I needed when I was trying to find my career," she says.
Edmund grew up in a small town in Northern B.C. on the Wet'suwet'en Territory, both on and off a reserve.
"I felt uncomfortable identifying as an Indigenous person because of the struggles I saw within my family and community as a result of intergenerational trauma and residential schools," she says.
After taking First Nation studies at university, Edmund began to learn more about the history and cultures of Indigenous Peoples. Something inside of her just clicked.
A few months ago, she participated in the phone calls to the 25 students who had been selected as the first cohort of recipients to receive the TD Scholarship for Indigenous Peoples – calls she says were incredibly moving.
"It really filled my heart with joy. I find that the youth from Indigenous communities today are so driven, they have so much passion. We're learning more about where we're coming from, and our history as a people, and what that means today and where we want to go in the future," she says.
"Seeing that firsthand with the students selected was really amazing. For me, being able to participate in these phone calls was very much an honour."
Applications for the 2024 TD Scholarship for Indigenous Peoples are open until November 6, 2023.
