Caroline Monnet's work investigates the impact of colonialism, updating obsolete systems with Indigenous methodologies. Using contemporary building materials and incorporating motifs passed down through generations, Monnet creates hybrid objects that respect tradition. Super Tough was made by engraving an insulating material typical of the patched construction of homes located on reservations. It acts as a metaphorical map, where the banality of the material rubs shoulders with the complexities of history.
