How to Measure Yourself
Once and for All
From bras to jeans to shoes — you got this.
How to get your
bra size
Put on a comfy, non-padded bra. Wrap a soft tape measure around you from directly beneath the bra band, under your bust, ensuring it’s snug. Round down to the nearest whole number for your band size. Then, measure around the widest part of your chest and round that up to the nearest whole number for your bust size. Subtract band size from bust size, and find that number on a bra sizing chart for your cup size.
Pro tip
You should be replacing your bra every six to nine months. (Yes, really.)
Stand with heels against a wall and measure from your heel to the longest toe. Then measure across under the ball of your feet for its width. Use a size conversion chart to match that number with the corresponding shoe size and width. (Psst…Average width for a size 9 foot is about 3 11/16”; 4 1/16”+ is considered wide.
Pro tip
Small feet? Try your luck in the children’s department where the same shoes are way more affordable.
Find your best-fitting pair of pants and measure from the crotch of the pants down to the inside seam. Alternatively, you can measure from the very top of your inner thigh to your ankle.
Pro tip
Shop brands that offer a variety of inseams, like Levi’s and Madewell.
Place measuring tape on the widest part of your body — usually around the middle of your butt — and wrap around. (The term ‘hip’ measurement is deceiving, since it’s not actually the measurement around your hip bone.) Make sure the tape is fitted, but not too tight or too loose.
Pro tip
If you struggle with dreaded waist gap, look out for brands that offer curvy options with extra inches throughout the hip and thigh area, like Abercrombie.
Wrap a soft tape measure from the point right above your belly button all the way around. Make sure the tape is fitted, but not too tight.
Pro tip
When calculating for low-rise jeans, measure 1.5 inches below your natural waist.
