Going to Greece
Everyone's favourite Greek family—The Portokalos family—is back on the big screen for My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, but this time there's a new co-star.
The country of Greece also plays a starring role in the production. Filming locations across Athens and the island of Corfu serve as the stunning backdrop to this touching comedic adventure, as Toula (Nia Vardalos) brings her extended family back to their ancestral homeland.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 premieres in theatres on September 8.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3
An unforgettable journey
The Portokalos family begins their adventure by traveling from Chicago to the Greek capital of Athens, where the modern and monumental intermingle in this ancient city.
This iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site is best visited early in the day for the smallest crowds or during the final hour before the gates close at sunset, when the view of Athens bathed in honey hues goes all the way to the sea.
Don't miss the nearby Acropolis Museum, a relative newcomer to the scene having opened in 2009. Built to the same size and orientation as the Parthenon, its 4,000 artifacts help explain the mythology and history of the citadel. An evening dinner date at the museum restaurant provides gorgeous nighttime views, with lights casting moody shadows on the millennia-old ruins.
ENCOUNTER The ACROPOLIS
Just beneath the Acropolis are some of Athens' oldest neighbourhoods, where sidewalk cafes, family-owned restaurants and shops line the narrow cobbled streets and alleys.
For an especially wonderful wander, give into the temptation to try Athens' ultimate street food—souvlaki—and visit the Plaka district, which feels like more like a small village than part of a sprawling city. (It was also the filming location for several scenes in the movie.)
Wander athens' eclectic NEIGHBOURHOODS
Less than 30 minutes from the Acropolis lies the Athens Riviera, a stretch of beaches that includes everything from secluded coves framed by palm and pine trees to posh resorts with seaside sunbeds to DJ-pumping party playgrounds like the Bolivar Beach Bar, where the Portokalos family lets loose in the movie.
For a particularly memorable beach day, go the extra mile to Kape Beach, about 60 minutes from Athens. In addition to the white sand, turqouise Aegean Sea and tall cliffs that set the scene, you're close to the Temple of Poseidon in Cape Sounion, where the sunsets are not to be missed.

THE NEW INN AT CLOVELLY
Corfu's microclimate makes it quite a fruitful island—with citrus trees yielding sweet oranges, lemons, tangerines and kumquats.
But it is the olive that reigns above all in Corfu, with ancient groves dotting the island's hillsides. Visit a family-run olive press such as The Governor for daily tours and olive oil tastings.
It is under a 2,000-year-old olive tree where the film has an especially poignant moment.
Corfu's role as storytelling setting goes all the way back to Homer's Odyssey, although you may have seen it more recently in the British ITV comedy "The Durrells" or the 1980s James Bond movie "For Your Eyes Only".
Scene-stealing surroundings in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 include the postcard-perfect view of the whitewashed church at the Vlacherna Monastery, and Danilia Village, a replica of a 1930s Corfiot village with narrow streets and colourful buildings that played the role of the fictitious Vrisi Village, where the Portokalos family reconnects with their roots.
PICTURESQUE VILLAGES
Corfu is an island that feels more Mediterranean than distinctly Greek, due to centuries of conquest by various different cultures, especially the nearby Venetians. You'll see those architectural influences when you explore the historically preserved Old Town of Corfu, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Start in Spianada Square, the second-largest public square in Europe after the Square of Saint Mark in Venice. Nearby, the Old Fortress (circa 15th century) still stands guard over the surrounding sea from its perch on a peninsula.
AN ISLAND CROSSROADS
Toula and her family trace their roots to her father's hometown of Vrisi Village. The picturesque island of Corfu, located off the west coast of Greece, provides the setting as the family's journey continues.
