As part of their Wave of Change program, Iberostar Resorts has made the mammoth commitment to eliminate single-use plastics at their resorts and is working towards being entirely waste-free by 2025. Changes can already be appreciated at select resorts in the simple swapping of plastic water bottles with reusable ones that guests receive when they arrive at Iberostar Selection Paraíso Maya Suites. In the dining room, 100 per cent of seafood consumed in Mexico’s Iberostars comes from sustainable sources. Guests can even walk through the abundant mangroves on site, which have been reforested specifically for their ability to absorb CO2.

Inside the kids club, called Star Camp, there are three different categories of programming for various age groups, but all have elements that focus on climate change and sustainability—helping kids get involved in protecting underwater wildlife.

Beaches abound

A stroll along the boardwalk through the mangrove sanctuary leads to a vast expanse of white sand at Iberostar Selection Paraíso Maya Suites. There are beachside food and drink offerings and a variety of activities from yoga and volleyball to the outdoor gym. Guests also have access to the amenities of the other three resorts in the Paraíso Complex—Iberostar Selection Paraíso Lindo, Iberostar Paraíso del Mar and Iberostar Paraíso Beach—from the flamingos at Del Mar and the peacocks at Paraíso Beach to the Iberostar Paraíso Golf Club.

Fun from the sandy beaches to the lazy river

Everyone loves a pool party and at Iberostar Selection Paraíso Maya Suites it doesn’t stop—in fact, it’s the reason many travellers book this hotel. There are eight pools in total, which includes your expected all-inclusive pools with plenty of lounge chairs sheltered by palapas for relaxing, the Aqua bar for drinks and the active pool for fitness classes. But there’s also a lazy river that winds through the resort, a wave pool, a splash zone, and a waterpark, called Aquafun, with seven waterslides.

Second to the swimming choices, the dining and drinking options are a primary focus for resort guests and Iberostar Selection Paraíso Maya Suites has it covered. There are several different restaurants and bars to enjoy, including a fantastic lobby bar modelled after the historic Chichén Itzá, an ancient Mayan pyramid, in addition to the buffet, snack bars and ice cream parlour. At the à la carte restaurants, dig into a steak at El Rancho Steakhouse, marvel at the chefs' teppanyaki skills at La Geisha Japanese restaurant or taste the local flavours of Mexico at El Tapatio.
