For the young and young at heart, there’s an abundance of fun to be had in Punta Cana, from aqua sports like windsurfing and kayaking to forest treks that unveil hidden waterfalls. Head out on a zip line tour, where expert canopy guides will take you across 16 different platforms and 12 adventurous routes. Drive an all-terrain sports vehicle across sand dunes to secret beaches, or consider catamaraning across azure waters to sandbanks and private beach clubs.
A hidden gem is Hoyo Claro, a crystal-clear cenote located in the middle of the forest. Hike off the beaten path and enjoy a refreshing dip in the blue waters, or visit the Indigenous Eyes Ecological Reserve; the 12 serene lagoons are bnamed for the way they appear like eyes when the sunlight hits them just right.
Salto de la Jalda, the highest waterfall in the Caribbean, is located two hours away from Punta Cana; a scenic hike through lush jungles will reward you with a swim under the thunderous roar. Book a helicopter tour for a bird’s eye view and unparalled photo opportunity.

Welcome to Punta Cana
It would be remiss not to start a guide to Punta Cana with a mention of the region's beaches. Home to the longest sandy coastline in the Caribbean (48 kilometres, but who’s counting?), it's a land of crystal clear waters and stretches of sand that bring to mind descriptors like “velvet-soft” and “sugar-fine."
There’s Bavaro Beach, the longest in Punta Cana and home to restaurants, beach clubs and bars, and just a little further north, Macao Beach, a popular destination for amateur surfers. One of our favourites is Juanillo Beach, located within the gated Cap Cana community (but open to everyone) with palm trees scattered right to the shoreline.
Make time for a full-day visit to Saona Island within East National Park, where you’ll find pristine beaches, coral reefs, mangroves and natural pools with fields of starfish. If that doesn’t sound dreamy enough, there are also palm-shaded spots to indulge in a massage right on the sand, and plenty of pina coladas to go around (served in a coconut, or even a pineapple).

The destination and resort you've been looking for
With African, Caribbean, Spanish and Taino indigenous influences, the gastronomy scene in Punta Cana is considered among the Caribbean's best. Try the sancocho, a traditional dish of meat, yucca, cilantro and banana, or sip a mamajuana, which combines rum, red wine and honey steeped in a blend of tree bark and herbs; its flavour is often compared to port or amaro.
Be sure to try mangu, a staple dish made with mashed plantains, and add la bandera (the flag), a national dish named for its colours and made with rice, beans and meat. For those who love to snack, kick back with some tostones, a twice-fried plantain chip, or crunch on freshly made chicharron (deep-fried pork rinds).
Travellers with a sweet tooth won't be disappointed. Bizcocho Dominicano, a popular light cake often made with pineapple filling and Italian meringue topping, is a local favourite to end a meal. We're also partial to the majarete, a sweet pudding made from sugar cones sprinkled with a little cinnamon.

The fact that the Bahia Principe Fantasia Punta Cana is all-inclusive means all three daily meals (and snacks!) are included. We love the peace of mind that comes with an all-inclusive arrangement; there's no bills to split up when we're dining with other households, no exchange rate to think about and no hefty tab to settle at the vacation's end. Even better? The food at this resort is awesome. You’ll get to enjoy a wide selection of meals and beverages, including family-style dishes and unlimited a-la-carte dinners at specialty restaurants. The resort features a variety of dining options, from its no-reservation-required main buffet, pool and beach restaurants, as well as included a-la-carte options where reservations are required in advance.
For a unique experience, try out the Garden Circus Restaurant or Kokoro sushi bar, both located within a castle, or for a more romantic evening, visit Las Olas, a newly opened oceanfront restaurant area offering a range of dishes from Greek to Thai as well as global cuisine with Caribbean twists. Guests at the property will also be able to access shared areas at all the sister brands within the Bavaro complex (including specialty restaurants).
Welcome to the Bahia Principe Fantasia Punta Cana, a destination in the heart of the Caribbean with stretches of beach and full of vacation vibes. This 5-star, all-suite resort with 512 suites is particularly popular with multigenerational families; there are three castles (yes, castles!) a children’s water park, kid’s and teen’s clubs, plus an adults-only spa, five restaurants and bars and a butler’s menu.
Debuting in 2016 and the first of the Bahia Principe Fantasia category, this resort is part of the Bahia Principe Bavaro Resort complex, which means guests are able to enjoy shared areas across the other four family-friendly resorts, as well as their a-la-carte restaurants.
Take a dip in the gigantic pool located at the heart of the property or while away an idyllic afternoon on Bavaro Beach (remember, it’s the longest in Punta Cana). Guests also enjoy an hour of free non-motorized water sports equipment per day; spend the time snorkelling amid schools of fish one day, then venture out on a kayak the next.

The Bahia Principe Fantasia Punta Cana’s signature castles provide a fairytale glow to the beachfront resort.
Watch the little ones’ eyes light up as they see the ivory turrets of the main castle tower over the main pool. And each night, a story is projected against the main castle walls, telling the story of “Papimber," the creator of Fantasia and the Garden of Hesperides, complete with nymphs, dragons and local folklore.
Though perfect for families, the resort is also great for couples and for parents looking for a little adult time while the children are entertained at the kid’s club.
On site, the Bahia Spa is a beloved retreat-within-a-resort, where you can relax with a menu of personalized massages as well as beauty and body treatments.
There are a variety of nightly events and shows to keep you entertained, including salsa and bachata dance lessons and other activities. And with access to adults-only facilities and services at other properties within the Bavaro complex, the options for quieter, more sophisticated fun seem endless.
Take a minute to relax at the beach or pool, and for an added fee, consider one of the several water sports classes and excursions offered on-site. Team sports, fitness and wellness programs are also specially designed and offered throughout the day.
