From Überlingen, you can catch the ferry to the pretty island of Mainau. Dubbed “flower island”, it is home to a large butterfly house and is famous for its sweeping floral displays. The flower season kicks off in spring with an orchid show, followed by thousands of tulips covering the island’s slopes from March to May, and rhododendrons and peonies in the summer.

Overview
Germany
Crisp, fresh mountain air awaits you in Bavaria, where glorious Alpine scenery provides hiking trails, mountain biking tracks, and ski slopes for active travellers.
The region is home to crystal-clear lakes, some with water clean enough to drink, as well as the spectacular Breitachklamm gorge, where visitors can hike on secured paths alongside the thundering water.
The iconic, romantic Neuschwanstein castle — the inspiration for Disney’s Sleeping Beauty castle — is arguably the most famous (and most Instagrammed) sight in the region.

A village high in the Bavarian Alps offering views of over 400 mountain peaks. Its car-free centre is lined with traditional chalets, as well as shops and restaurants. Enjoy the village festivals and folklore evenings, including the Viehscheid, which is the annual celebration in September and October of the cattle descending from their mountain pastures. Accompanied by the sound of bells, the cows are adorned with colourful decorations as spectators watch them make their way along the paths.
