ESTA
Brits can visit the USA for up to 90 days without a visa. You’ll need authorisation from ESTA – the Electronic System for Travel Authorisation – before you travel.

Everyone from the UK going to the USA – even if you’re just passing through – must fill out an Electronic System for Travel Authorisation form in advance.
You can fill out your ESTA application online. It costs $40 per person*, and lasts for two years unless your passport expires before then. All people travelling require an ESTA, including babies and children. This applies even if you’ve had an ESTA before, or if you’ve changed your name/passport since you applied for your ESTA.
*Correct as of 30th September 2025
To avoid losing money, it’s worth applying for your ESTA before booking your holiday, flights or accommodation, just in case your application isn’t accepted. You need to apply for your ESTA at least three days prior to travelling. The approval time for an ESTA can take up to 72 hours, and we recommend applying for yours as soon as possible.
