Plati Yialos
The beaches on the south coast get the most attention on Mykonos, and Plati Yialos is the name on everyone’s lips. It’s a long curl of golden sand, sheltered by hills and lined with smart hotels.
Mykonos
Mykonos Town
Traditional whitewashed houses and blue-domed churches set the scene in Mykonos Town. The Archaeological Museum and Folklore Museum tick the culture box – the latter is housed in an 18th-century mansion.
Super Paradise Beach
Out for the night? Make tracks for Super Paradise Beach. As well as sporting a standout swathe of sand that’s well worth a visit in the daytime, it’s home to a swanky beach club that comes to life at sunset serving cocktails by the sand.

For seriously standout scenery…
Its huge array of beaches may be Kos’ calling card, but this Greek Island getaway also lines up whitewashed villages, pine-cloaked mountain slopes and hillsides blanketed in wild flowers.

Nisyros Island
Take a boat from Kardamena to Nisyros Island. It may be peaceful, but it’s home to the mountain village of Nikia – which teeters on the rim of a volcanic crater. Pay a visit and walk right to the bubbling volcano floor.
Kos Town
On the island’s northeast coast, Kos Town lines up plenty for history lovers. Don’t miss the 15th-century Castle of Neratzia – built by the Knights Templar – and the remains of the Asklepion, a Greek sanatorium a few kilometres
out west.
Kardamena Beach
With three kilometres of sand to play with, Kardamena Beach has got the lot. Watersports, beach bars, restaurants – you name it. Head to either end if you prefer things a bit quieter, or over to super-sleepy Helona Beach about 10 minutes away.

No wonder Rhodes is one of the most-visited islands in Greece.

Faliraki
One of Europe’s biggest party towns, Faliraki comes to life at night with an impressive collection of bars and clubs to keep you busy from dusk ‘til dawn. Things are pretty lively by day, too, with white-knuckle watersports at Faliraki Beach.
Rhodes Old Town
Built by the Knights of St John, Rhodes’ UNESCO-listed Old Town is wrapped in Medieval walls. Walk the Street of the Knights – a 600-metre stretch lined with old inns that’s one of the best-preserved Medieval streets in Europe.
Kolymbia
Rhodes has no end of beautiful beaches to pick from, but Kolymbia – midway between lively Faliraki and ancient Lindos – hits the perfect balance if you’re after some R&R.
A handful of restaurants and a few watersports is about as lively as
things get.

The one with the sunsets…
Volcanic beaches, epic sunsets and a crescent-shaped caldera set the scene in Santorini. Factor in its signature whitewashed towns and blue-domed churches and you’ve got the whole postcard-worthy picture.

Perissa
Things stay pretty sedate on Santorini, but Perissa – on the island’s southeast coast – lines up a long list of watersports for adrenaline seekers. Snorkelling in the Aegean Sea is a popular pastime, too, if you get your kicks underwater.
Oia
Carved out of the cliffside, Oia lays claim to some of the island’s best sunset views. So much so that you’ll find plenty of paintings of them for sale at the various art galleries hidden down narrow alleyways here.
Santorini
Kamari Beach
This Blue Flag beach is one of the island’s most popular for good reason. The dark sand stretches for more than five kilometres, and there’s a supporting cast of ice-cream joints and seafood restaurants.
