Dear Owners and Members, Welcome to Club Traveler magazine’s last issue of 2023! It’s been an exciting year to be part of the Hilton Grand Vacations family and a memorable one for me. Reflecting on my first year as chief customer officer, I can’t help but think about every Owner and Member whom I’ve had the pleasure of hearing from during my travels with HGV. Numerous studies show that people are happiest when they have a vacation planned, and the top activity enjoyed on multigenerational trips is time spent together as a family. Recognizing this, we take being stewards of your vacations seriously and feel privileged to play such an important role in your lives — helping you make unforgettable memories with family and friends at our beautiful properties around the world. I’ve also enjoyed sitting down with executives and team leaders in my video updates to share news about HGV and answer your questions about everything from program benefits to the property rebranding initiative and more. If you’ve missed this communication, you can access the full videos on your Member website and your Club Traveler newsletters. As I said in the first magazine issue of the year, our goal is to showcase destinations around the world that will inspire you to “Dream. Plan. Go.” and maximize the benefits of your vacation ownership. Our award-winning publication is dedicated to providing you with invaluable insights and expert tips for planning memorable travel adventures across the globe, ensuring a truly exceptional experience with HGV.

Exploring a destination with a tour guide is a great way to find local gems and avoid the crowds. Just ask Canden S. Arciniega, a manager and guide for Free Tours by Foot in Washington, D.C., who brings travelers to see her favorite secret viewpoints on some of the most famous sites in the city. But when your tour is over, or if you prefer to create your own vacation itinerary, here’s how to channel the local expertise of a guide to see the best of your destination.
Brooke Schoenman Founder of travel advice site Her Packing List
Anne McAlpin Founder of travel organizing site Pack It Up
“Be flexible! When leading tours, especially in a city like Washington, D.C., I must be able to change plans quickly in case of motorcades, protests or parades,” Canden says. Sometimes when traveling, you can get set on an itinerary going a certain way, but letting go of those expectations can lead to unexpected and unique experiences. “Having that mentality when traveling is essential for a good trip.”
“One of the things I love to do is put away the map and just wander. I look for interesting sights and follow smells or sounds,” Canden shares. “At a corner, sometimes I ask my kids which way to go. And we just go that way.” Canden also suggests a screen break once you’ve snapped a few photos. “Putting down the camera is hard — I get it. But it is helpful,” she says. “So many people spend so much time getting the perfect pose that sometimes they miss where they are.”
“If a restaurant is near a tourist attraction and has lots of bright lights and signs, and crowds of people with maps and cameras, it’s probably touristy,” Canden advises. “If you see a line outside, it’s probably not full of locals.” The tour guide also says she frequently asks locals for their favorite spots — servers at restaurants and cab drivers are always good sources of authentic hidden gems.

Barbados
One Island, Five Ways
The sparkling, sandy coastlines of Barbados might be what initially draws visitors to this tropical wonderland. And while the Eastern Caribbean island is indeed home to some of the best beaches in the world, inland from the pristine shores, you can also discover amazing dining and cultural experiences that will keep you coming back. Here’s your guide to what to see, do, eat and drink while visiting Barbados.
There are seemingly endless beaches to explore here, with each shore boasting a memorable view. You can drive around the entire island in two to three hours, so you can easily see the sunrise in one spot and the sunset in another, all in one day. On the South Coast is Silver Sands Beach, known for its action sports. On any pleasant day, you’ll see windsurfers, kite surfers and other folks who enjoy chasing down the waves. On the southwest side of the island, you’ll find a cluster of beaches in Carlisle Bay, including Pebbles Beach and Brownes Beach — prime spots for sunbathing and enjoying a stroll on the sand. While you’re in the area, don’t miss Cuz’s Fish Shack for a fish cutter, a sandwich made with fried flying fish or marlin. Arguably one of the best beaches on the island, Worthing Beach truly comes alive in the evenings, since an array of dining and nightlife is just a few steps away. Nearby Worthing Square Food Garden is known for its food trucks, and it’s an excellent place to try a fish cutter or other tasty local dishes. On the East Coast is Bathsheba Beach, home of the Soup Bowl. This is a surfer’s paradise, and its name originates from the shape of the foamy waves you’ll find here. Looking for hiking along the cliffs or some kayaking? This is your spot! And, as an island is only as cool as its hideaways, head to the North Coast to explore Animal Flower Cave, a popular spot for a dip and postcard-perfect views.

On the beach
Barbados’ crystal-clear waters offer chances to catch a glimpse of hawksbill and leatherback turtles, as well as plenty of finned residents like parrotfish, rays and seahorses. So, if you’re hoping for these wildlife encounters, Carlisle Bay’s Marine Park is a great place for snorkeling. For beginners or those snorkeling with children, take a tour to explore Paynes Bay, which has calm waters and a shallow reef. Underwater explorers can also search for shipwrecks, reachable by snorkel tours from Bridgetown. If you prefer to stay dry, glass-bottom boat tours can also take you out to see the submerged ships. Or book a spot on an Atlantis Submarines excursion to see the depths — no scuba diving necessary. This family-friendly attraction is a unique way to experience shipwrecks, colorful coral reefs and tropical marine life.
In the water
Barbados is widely considered the birthplace of rum, making a rum tour a must-do during your visit. Of course, you can sip rum-infused cocktails poolside, but immersing yourself in the history of this spirit takes your experience to another level. The oldest distillery is Mount Gay, which was founded in 1703. Pay a visit to the northern tip of the island to tour the estate, sample the local specialties and purchase rum souvenirs. Afterward, head southeast to the Morgan Lewis Windmill, which is also estimated to have been built in the 1700s to produce sugar. It’s still intact after all this time and has been partially converted into a museum. After learning about the history of the island’s most famous spirit, be sure to order a rum punch with your meals — just as the locals would.
The Southwest Coast is where you’ll find most of the island’s nightlife. Hastings Road is lined with delicious and authentic eats, such as Baby Doll, which serves casual plates with a side of oceanfront views. Farther south, Cafe Sol is a relaxed spot for hearty Mexican cuisine, margaritas and people-watching. To try a traditional roti, head to Lisa’s Doubles & Roti. Don’t forget extra napkins because the delectable channa (chickpea) sauce has a tendency to spill everywhere. Many beachfront stands also sell charred breadfruit (a tropical fruit in the mulberry and jackfruit family). But if you hold out for a visit to Yelluh Meat in Bridgetown, you can build your own breadfruit bowl topped with flavorful stews and salsas. If you love music, dancing and mingling with locals, head to the bars of St. Lawrence Gap. Chances are, there’s a night of the week that’s dedicated to the sort of music you enjoy. However, call or check the social media pages of the different establishments to find out what entertainment is on each evening and what time the party gets started. Or, to join a popular local night out, make your way to Mojo for live reggae on Wednesday nights. Wherever you go, don’t forget to order a rum cocktail to complete the experience.

Barbados has extensive options for jungle exploration. All you need to do is head toward the parish of St. Thomas in the center of the island. This area offers many options for cave visits and nature trails. It’s home to Harrison’s Cave Eco-Adventure Park, where you can spot underground waterfalls on the cave tram or soar through the trees on a thrilling zip line. For hikers, the lush and leafy Coco Hill Forest offers picturesque views. If you continue east toward Bathsheba, the epic path incorporates cliff walks and botanical gardens.

Your piece of tropical paradise is located on the south side of the island in St. Philip. The Crane sits on 40 sprawling acres (16 hectares) of beachfront, with beautiful views of the sea. Founded in 1887, The Crane is the oldest continuously operating resort in the Caribbean, and its long legacy shines through in the luxurious offerings on-site. The resort boasts Studios, 1-, 2- and 3-Bedroom Suites, with four-poster beds, marble accents, rooftop decks and full kitchens. After a day exploring the beachfront, relax in the scenic cliff-top pool, lush tropical gardens and panoramic rooftop terraces.

Away from the coast, there is plenty more to see in the heart of the state. Just a short drive north of Orlando, you’ll find Wekiwa Springs State Park. Visitors flock to the naturally clear water to swim or paddleboard or simply enjoy a barbecue on the banks. To the east, Blue Spring State Park is another favorite swimming spot. But here, you may even get to share the waters with manatees, turtles and even baby alligators, although visitors should be sure not to disturb these fascinating creatures. For a relaxing nature walk, visit Orlando Wetlands Park, a green area dedicated to treating reclaimed water to make a safe home for the local wildlife. The area is popular with bird lovers as more than 240 species live in the lush wetlands. Or, outside Orlando to the northwest, the Lake Apopka Loop Trail follows the shore of one of Florida’s largest lakes. It’s perfect for a leisurely stroll or bike ride, with the chance to spot herons or gators. Don’t miss the park’s observation tower for a breathtaking view of the water.
Park City hosts the world-renowned Sundance Film Festival each January, with this year’s event marking the 40th anniversary of the festival. The program includes dramatic and documentary features and short films, some of which go on to gain major blockbuster status. But Sundance is only part of the alpine city’s artistic allure. Go beyond Sundance with screenings at the Park City Film art house cinema. Its Art on Screen Series, for one, runs throughout the year and features award-winning plays, dance performances and retrospectives celebrating the lives and works of renowned filmmakers.

Take home a piece of artwork or handmade craft as a souvenir from the city’s selection of artisan shops. Check out local creators at Artworks Park City, a craft cooperative gallery that specializes in quirky and whimsical pieces like sculptures of dancing fruit and lively metalwork characters. Browse Made in Park City to find local creators — and if you fall in love with artwork too big for your suitcase, the shop offers shipping services to ensure your new masterpiece arrives safely to your home. Or visit Park City Jewelers on Main Street to take home a beautiful piece of wearable art made right in the city.
Creative boutiques
Whether you prefer paintings, photography or sculpture, Park City has a gallery for you. The historic center is home to more than 20 fine art galleries. The Thomas Anthony Gallery, a staple of the local art scene, features works by international creators and artists from the surrounding region. Outdoors adventurers, skiers and snowboarders will appreciate the studio galleries of David Beavis and William Kranstover, both of whom have depicted enigmatic winter scenes of Park City in their respective work.

Postcard FroM ...
The secret to seeing the best of New York City is to break the metropolis into bite-sized pieces, with plenty of stops along the way to sample the city’s best eats. While it has a reputation for being the City That Never Sleeps, there are plenty of places to find moments of serenity and peace amidst the bustle, where you can sit back and take it all in.
For a view of the city’s skyscrapers, and to see the expanse of Central Park from above, book a ticket to the Top of the Rock, where you can see the famous panorama — including the Art Deco Empire State Building.
On the eastern edge of the park, you’ll find some of the city’s best art, housed in The Frick Collection, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. At the Met, as it’s affectionately known, find a hidden oasis: The Cantor Roof Garden Bar, perfect for grabbing a drink or simply enjoying the view.
From your base in Midtown, explore the polished offerings on Fifth Avenue. Here you’ll find brands like Tiffany & Co., Bergdorf Goodman, Cartier and Ferragamo, along with iconic attractions such as St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall.
This boutique-style property is an artistic oasis within the big city. The Quin not only boasts sweeping views of Central Park but also a bespoke art collection to complement the Manhattan location. Your Studio or 1-Bedroom Suite feature stunning city-view windows and is only a short walk from cultural attractions like The Museum of Modern Art or the theaters of Broadway.
Where to stay
There are many entry points to Central Park, the green heart of Manhattan, but we suggest starting from the Pond near Fifth Avenue and wandering toward Bethesda Terrace. Just steps away, explore Bow Bridge and the lake for views of the bridge and skyline reflected in the water.
Head to SoHo for a more boutique shopping experience. Wander the cobblestone streets and peruse dainty jewelry at Catbird and artistic homewares at MoMA Design Store. The area, famous for its unique cast iron architecture, also boasts curated vintage shops and fine art galleries.
DESTINATION SPotlight

Modern diner and deli Bubby’s serves up heaping brunch plates of pancakes with your choice of sweet or savory toppings, from fried chicken to caramelized bananas. Or, opt for the house smoked salmon with cucumber, horseradish cream cheese, onion and capers on a homemade everything or plain bagel.
Walk across the historic Brooklyn Bridge from Manhattan to DUMBO, a neighborhood named for its place Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. There, you can explore Brooklyn Bridge Park, with its stunning views of the Manhattan cityscape and the restored vintage Jane’s Carousel.
In a city home to many of the world’s best bars, you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to finding the perfect spot for a nightcap. For old school glamour, choose the Temple Court and enjoy classic cocktails under a nine-story Victorian-era atrium. For modern sophistication with a skyline view, Manhatta Bar offers cocktails named for New York neighborhoods like the eponymous Manhatta with rye, bourbon, vermouth, raspberry and coffee bitters.
Don’t miss Bryant Park, a peaceful green space between the bustle of Times Square and Fifth Avenue. The park is home to summer musical performances and a winter ice skating rink, as well as the New York Public Library (book ahead for a tour of the majestic Rose Reading Room).
Established in 1915, Dante is an Italian institution. Go for the well-crafted plates of homemade pasta and flatbread pizzas, stay for the seasonal cocktails. For dessert, order the signature Caffe Dante Coffee: Irish whiskey, walnut liqueur, agave and espresso.

One of Canada’s most decorated kitchens, AnnaLena nabbed one of Vancouver’s first Michelin stars in 2022. Decorated in collectible Bearbricks, LEGO® Stormtroopers™, Michael Jordan action figures and curated street art, the playful yet sleek dining room is one of the coolest places to eat in the city. But don’t be fooled by AnnaLena’s swagger. At heart, every dish showcases British Columbia’s terroir with exceptional seasonal ingredients from local farms and suppliers, like beets from Pemberton’s North Arm Farm and steelhead trout from Lois Lake.
AnnaLena’s tasting menus (or “Chapters”), offered at $112 per person, are constantly evolving, with a new version coming out roughly every six weeks. Each fresh iteration includes five imaginative, pitch-perfect dishes — think deceptively simple bowls of shelled mussels layered with broths, foams and gels, or char siu pork belly made with ricotta cappelletti and summer peas. For dessert, treat yourself to pan-Asian-influenced classics such as black sesame Paris-Brest or sake-glazed strawberries with shortbread and thyme semifreddo.
In addition to local food, AnnaLena provides a spectacular wine list built around small, independent producers from British Columbia and beyond.

Day two
10 A.M.
After a lazy morning, it’s time to check out the area’s other favorite winter activities. The Breckenridge Nordic and Gold Run Nordic centers offer more than 30 miles (48 kilometers) of beautifully groomed trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Rent a fat bike that’s made for winter terrain to ride the trails or go deeper into the silent snowy woods on snowmobiling, dog sledding or snowcat tours.
The combination of Breckenridge’s popularity and laid-back vibe make it one of the best destinations for apres-ski fun. TBar at the base of Peak 8 in One Ski Hill Place offers a large selection of microbrews and appetizers like house smoked chopped brisket over waffle fries on a large outdoor sun deck.
2 P.M.
Peak 8 is also a great destination for the non skiers in your group, who can ride the free BreckConnect Gondola from town over the Cucumber Gulch Wildlife Preserve and take a few tours on the ice-skating rink after lunch.
7 P.M.
Trade your skates and skis for a sleigh with Breckenridge Stables Sleigh Rides. The horse-drawn tour heads up the mountain to a yurt, where you’ll be served a hearty buffet dinner complete with live entertainment. Expect beautiful snowy views of the valley on the descent — don’t worry, warm blankets are provided.
The chairlifts at Breckenridge Ski Resort open first thing in the morning to provide access to five peaks, 187 trails and four terrain parks. The mountains offer a good mix of wide and well-groomed green, blue, black diamond and double black diamond slopes. If you’re feeling brave after a few practice runs, take a ride on the highest lift in North America, the Imperial Express Superchair, up to 12,840 feet (3,913 meters) for pristine snow and expert and advanced intermediate runs.
Give your adrenaline a break and round up your crew for lunch. Robbie’s Tavern, a locally owned, slope-side bistro at the base of Peak 8, offers killer views, outside seating and classic comfort food — think pot roast stew, Philly cheesesteaks and hot peppermint patty cocktails topped with whipped cream and crushed candy canes.

No trip to Breckenridge would be complete without a hike to the landmark Sapphire Point Overlook, where you’ll be treated to jaw-dropping views of the Dillon Reservoir, sandwiched between the Gore and Tenmile mountain ranges. Make sure to wear proper footwear because the 0.6-mile (1-kilometer) loop trail can be icy, but it’s worth the trek to catch the last rays of the hazy winter sun.
9 P.M.
Cap off the night with a cocktail at Ember, where you’ll find a menu full of cozy favorites and unique creations. Try the Hot Todd, a spin on the classic warming drink, or sample a Crazy Uncle Sherry, made with Four Roses bourbon, sweet vermouth, sherry and cherry.
Learn more about the town’s mining past by booking a “Walk Through History” tour in Breckenridge’s National Historic District. You’ll learn that the town started out as a collection of tents and log cabins after miners found gold in the Blue River in 1859. The 90-minute outdoor tour starts at the Breckenridge Welcome Center and runs through winter.
