Customer profile
When it comes to shipping products, one multinational appliance manufacturer prides itself on prompt delivery and an easy returns process for customers when necessary—all while maintaining its return on investment (ROI). But, like many shippers, the team wasn’t seeing its full potential due to manual logistics processes.
To evolve its legacy supply chain management systems, the brand partnered with Uber Freight in spring 2022 to leverage its TMS and team of experts. The partnership is helping the brand streamline and automate its logistics operations to save time and money.

By having Uber Freight as a managed transportation service provider—in essence, a team of experts collaborating on every step of the transformation to drive process change—the company has gained multiple benefits: better visibility into shipment data; enhanced service levels; and cost-saving opportunities through route optimization.
The enhanced visibility into shipment data, and the integrity of that data, has positioned the manufacturer to effectively drill down into any carrier or customer performance levels in the end-to-end logistics cycle. Since integrating Uber Freight’s automated TMS solutions, the company’s stakeholders have increased confidence in accessing accurate, data-driven insights to analyze service levels, which encompass the speed and accuracy of deliveries.
The brand has also been able to use its shipment data more productively. It’s able to more efficiently collect and use data points to make strategic adjustments around factors like carrier and route selection, enabling more dynamic procurement. The TMS integration is also providing enhanced visibility into outbound deliveries to customers and the reverse logistics program, helping the company build a more efficient process to monitor proof of delivery.
Cost-saving opportunities are also a critical component of Uber Freight’s partnership with the brand, and a byproduct of working with logistics experts to more strategically optimize existing operations. For example, Uber Freight is supporting the company’s program that measures year-over-year savings—with cost-out initiatives such as implementing mode conversions and alternative routes.
The past three years have taught shippers that it’s crucial to have a logistics strategy that arms them with agility to easily adapt to market disruption. The brand plans to keep evolving its strategic approach to logistics by leveraging Uber Freight’s managed transportation services, TMS, and insights into the state of the market to make more informed, cost-effective shipping decisions.
Results: Improved service levels, data visibility, and cost savings
Results
As a strategic logistics partner, Uber Freight’s implementation team collaborated with the company’s logistics team to create a project plan that ensured seamless integration of its large tech stack, which included a cloud-based warehouse management system and shipment tracking software.
To better track loads, Uber Freight trained the company’s customer service team to use a proprietary control tower: an AI-enabled digital platform that shows the whereabouts of shipments in real time through location-sharing data. The brand’s logistics team is able to keep track of where shipments are at any given moment, allowing them to identify delays and make route adjustments as needed. Improved visibility also helps ensure goods don’t get lost in transit, increases on-time deliveries, and, in turn, boosts customer satisfaction.
The manufacturer’s reverse logistics network—in which customers return goods back to the company—was another supply chain management process opportunity. Automating the network with logistics management software has helped increase visibility into every aspect of the returns journey. This allows the logistics team to better track the status of inbound shipments and improve communication on product whereabouts, arrival timing, and next steps (such as filing invoices) to all the involved supply chain parties.
