With da Vinci Xi® Robotic Surgery
Sonia Pedraza always valued a healthy lifestyle and diet, which helped her catch a major health concern just in time. “I went to the doctor because I was experiencing mild constipation,” she says. After a colorectal exam, it was determined that Pedraza had a colorectal tumor.
“When I got the news, I got scared”
But with determination, she approached her next steps. Her doctor referred her to Alina Ghani, MD, FACS, who quickly assured her: “You are in very good hands.”
The Robotic Advantage
Soon after, Pedraza underwent robotic surgery performed by Dr. Alina Ghani, MD, FACS, at Doctors Hospital. The procedure was a success, and she was able to return home after just two days. “Dr. Ghani is a very compassionate doctor. I feel very blessed, she’s an excellent surgeon.”
“The da Vinci® is the future of surgery”
Alina Ghani, MD, FACS
General Surgeon, Laredo Physicians Group
Dr. Ghani explains: “The da Vinci surgical system is a ‘robotic’ platform. The surgeon has 100% control of the system, which translates the surgeon’s hand movements to the movements of tiny instruments.”
This technology allows surgeons to perform complex procedures with potential advantages that include:
Less Pain
Shorter Hospital Stays
Faster Recovery Times
The Future of Surgery
“It’s only going to get more prolific. Robotic surgery is here to stay to help us do better for patients,” proclaims Dr. Ghani.
Pedraza emphasizes the importance of getting screened for colorectal cancer. It is highly treatable in its early stages, and with the da Vinci Xi robotic surgery system, surgical treatment is less invasive.

Screening tests can help detect colorectal cancer at an early stage, when treatment is most effective. It is recommended adults ages 45 to 75 get screened for colorectal cancer. For those 76 to 85, screening should be decided individually. If you’re over 75, consult your doctor about screening options.*
Individual results may vary. There are risks associated with any surgical procedure. Talk with your doctor about these risks to find out if robotic surgery is right for you.
