The recent opening of Northwest Specialty Hospital, An Extension of Northern Nevada Medical Center, provides expanded rehabilitation services for our community. The acute rehabilitation team offers a continuum of care from our hospitals to post-acute recovery and a path to independence for all patients.

What acute rehab services are offered?
NWSH offers comprehensive interdisciplinary rehabilitation including speech therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy services. We specialize in treating:
Stroke
Amputations
Major trauma
Medical deconditioning and other disabling conditions
Neurological conditions
Parkinson’s disease
Spinal cord injury
What types of patients are seen in acute rehab?
Patients that need rehabilitation services after a sudden change in physical and/or cognitive functional status that would be unsafe or unable to discharge home.
How long do patients typically stay?
What is a transitional apartment and what purpose does it serve?
Northwest Specialty Hospital offers a fully furnished transitional apartment designed to simulate a home environment. Patients and families can practice daily activities, such as cooking, cleaning, bathing, transfers and more, in a comfortable setting prior to discharge. This helps to ensure confidence as they transition back home.
