The Crown
It certainly feels strange to sit through another season of Netflix’s The Crown knowing its central figure no longer reigns over Buckingham Palace with her corgi companions in tow. But then again, this is a show that’s always felt a bit removed from the real royal family, choosing to focus on truths som multiple viewpoints rather than having its story dictated by the ominous, omnipotent Firm. In season 5, Elizabeth Debicki and Dominic West step into the shoes of Princess Diana and Prince Charles as their marriage breaks down to irreparable new lows while Imelda Staunton plays the late Queen Elizabeth amidst this tumultuous period.

Manifest
Another network TV rescue saved from cancellation death by Netflix, the final season of this sci-fi-tinged mystery drama airs its first-half this year and picks up two years after the events of season three. The show promises to hang onto its Lost vibes by deep diving into the strange “Callings” some of the survivors of Flight 828 experience, promising answers to some central mysteries before the season’s later half drops sometime next year.

Blockbuster
Premiere Date: november 3
The bitter irony of Netflix streaming a show about the long-fallen lords of home entertainment will definitely turn heads, but Blockbuster seems more focused on becoming the next Superstore than it is on diving too deeply into the war over Friday night rentals. And while nostalgia for human curation in these algorithmic times is real, nothing is more relatable than quirky co-workers, eyeroll inducing customers, and goofing off with friends.

The English
Premiere Date: november 11
Amazon
If Emily Blunt’s name doesn’t increase your interest in The English, a new, period-set Western for Amazon Prime, to the level of must-see status, then it’s hard to know what will. Blunt plays Lady Cornelia Locke, presumably the “English” of the title, a Brit-born woman who journeys to 1890s America to uncover the party (or parties) responsible for the death of her son. She allies herself with a Pawnee Nation scout named Eli Whipp (Chaske Spencer) in her quest for a side of cold-served revenge, one filled with shootouts, dust-covered standoffs, and some surprisingly weighty themes.

Tulsa King
The track records of Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone, Hell or High Water, Sicario) and co-showrunner Terence Winters (Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos) are more than enough reason to move their latest offering, Tulsa King, to the must-see list. Add action star Sylvester Stallone into the mix as Dwight “The General” Manfredi -- an ex-con and full-time mobster, sent to the literal middle of the country to start a criminal operation for his New York City mob bosses – and you’ve got a hyper-compelling crime drama.

Yellowstone
Succession with spurs returns as land baron John Dutton (Kevin Costner) is forced to deal with the muck of politics after getting sworn in as Governor of Montana. Not quite a go-along to get-along kinda guy, you can imagine that he's gonna do things his way, breaking norms and pissing people off in the process as the typical power jockeying and messed up family dynamics continue to swirl in Paramount+'s hit drama from Taylor Sheridan.

Dead to Me
The final season of this darkly-funny crime drama promises more of the things that made fans fall in love with it. More trauma-bonding. More whodunnits. More murders, money laundering, and James Marsden. But most importantly, more time to spend with Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini’s Jen and Judy, the murderous besties we all wish we had (or were). Here’s to the final ride of Judy Five Fingers and B*tch Cassidy.

Fleishman In Trouble
Jesse Eisenberg and Claire Danes are the main parties involved in the messy divorce dramedy that fuels this story based on a book of the same name. Forget a relationship on the rocks, their characters Toby and Rachel have flung themselves against the tide in the hope of escaping each other. In the process, Rachel disappears, abandoning their two tweenagers with her ex who struggles to single-parent and adapt to dating app life.

Ziwe
Ziwe returns to Showtime, bringing her reliably brash, blunt, and comedically fearless chops to an upcoming slate of interviews that includes Julia Fox, Michael Che, Drew Barrymore, and Joel Kim Booster. What can we say? She repeatedly revitalizes the talk show genre, good-naturedly antagonizing her guests and putting on wild comedy sketches about American Doll toys who just happen to be wives to imperialist colonizers.

Wednesday
This mysterious, spooky, and all-together kooky Tim Burton spin-off celebrates arguably the best member of the Addams Family, played here by Jenna Ortega. Wednesday is still the devious, morose outsider she always was but in this coming-of-age retelling, she’s tasked with solving a murder mystery while surviving a stint at the terrifying boarding school her parents once attended. Gwendoline Christie plays the institution’s headmistress while Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán play Morticia and Gomez Addams. Should this series have dropped closer to Halloween? Sure. Do we mind? Not when it looks this good, no.

Willow
Disney loves to bank on its earned nostalgia to recruit new subscribers – just look at some other entries on this list for proof. But, when you’re revamping a fantasy adventure as weird and winsome as Willow, we’ll forgive the obvious gimmick. This new series invited the great Warwick Davis back to play the sorcerer Willow Ulfgood and recruits some newcomers to aid him on a quest that’s just as grand and dangerous as the original.

Fast X
Buckle up, fam. Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto is back, alongside a few dozen of his closest friends in an attempt to cast almost everyone who's ever been in a Fast movie for this latest all out war. Toretto and the crew are facing their toughest enemy yet: the past. Skydiving on a motorcycle onto the scene comes Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa), a flamboyant, vengeance-fueled dynamo who licks blood off his knife and wants to take out Toretto for his reckless actions in Fast 5. Fast X is a high-octane personal reflection on retribution, promising blurred moral lines and joyfully impossible physics.

The Little Mermaid
Life, as we all know, is the bubbles. This live-action version of Millennials' favorite Disney movie blends new and nostalgic characters, and it's all anchored by Halle Bailey's jaw-dropping voice. Just like the 1989 animated version (and 1/10th of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale), land-longing Ariel gambles her voice with Drag Race contestant Ursula (Melissa McCarthy) to win the love of the Prince (Jonah Hauer-King) but ends up risking her father's entire kingdom. Kids should love it, and parents can look forward to listening to its sound track on repeat for the next six months.

Season 4: Part 2 — Netflix
Movie theaters are about to be infested with an amazing amount of Spider-persons. Set a year after the events of Into the Spider-Verse, Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) recruits Miles (Shameik Moore) to save all the universes of Spider-People from a villain called The Spot (Jason Schwartzman) whose body is covered in interdimensional portals. It's like chicken pox with wormholes. They team up with the Spider-Society, butting heads with its leader, Spider-Man 2099 (the omnipresent Oscar Isaac), and try to win the day while listening to an absolutely banging soundtrack.

Transformers:
Rise of the Beasts
Release Date: June 9
Season 6: Part 2 — AMC
After handing over the directorial reigns of the franchise with Bumblebee, Michael Bay continues his evolution into elder statesman of the Transformers universe, acting as producer while Creed II director Steven Caple Jr. takes the helm. He's also taking us back in time to 1994, where archaeologists dig themselves into the interplanetary battle between Autobots, Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons. The legendary Peter Cullen returns as Optimus Prime, and Bumblebee is back. They're joined by Pete Davidson voicing the Porsche Carrera spy Mirage, Liza Koshy as the Ducati commando Arcee, and Cristo Fernandez as a Volkswagen hippie bus mechanic. On the rising beast side, Ron Perlman plays a robo-gorilla (Optimus Primal) and Michelle Yeoh plays a robo-falcon.

Extraction 2
Chris Hemsworth returns as the extraction specialist and death wish owner Tyler Rake for another carnival of head trauma and flying bullets. This time he’s got to rescue the family of a Georgian gangster from a high security prison, cementing the Russo Brothers’ post-Marvel career as masters of high concept, brutal military action that are always eager to pose an important question: how do we blow more stuff up?

The Flash
Hot on the heels of Ezra Miller’s controversies and legal troubles, Warner Bros. is pushing forward with a standalone Flash movie that looks back to the past. After traveling back in time to stop his mother’s death, Barry Allen is trapped in an alternative universe and must look to Batman Classic (Michael Keaton) and Super Girl (Sasha Calle) to stop Michael Shannon’s General Zod (also back!) from obliterating everything.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
No Spielberg, and no Lucas, but a chance for crystal redemption (and almost assuredly Harrison Ford hanging up the whip and fedora). After his many globe-trotting adventures, Dr. Henry Walton Jones, Jr. is grumpy about NASA hiring former Nazis to help them best the Soviets to the moon. Phoebe Waller-Bridge co-stars as Indy’s goddaughter, but there’s still plenty of room for nostalgia bombs.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One
The spy series that came roaring back to life with breath-stealing stunts and sharp plotlines courtesy of writer/director Christopher McQuarrie, the newest Mission Impossible offers the first installment in an epic tale of double crosses, Tom Cruise running, and Tom Cruise running some more. Ethan Hunt’s team is still intact, and the non-CGI stunts are still ridiculous, but the back-to-back films are a send-off for Cruise’s character after 8 movies.

Oppenheimer
Box office battling with Barbie, Christopher Nolan’s explosive biopic of J. Robert Oppenheimer (played by Cillian Murphy) promises the birth of the atomic bomb and a non-zero chance of destroying the entire world. Surely headed for Oscars, it’s got a stacked cast (Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey, Jr, Florence Pugh…), and it’s fantastic to see Murphy jump from Nolan’s regular sidekick to a weighty leading role.

The Meg 2
It’s true what they say: if it hasn’t been shredded by hundreds of razor sharp teeth, don’t fix it. Jason Statham’s Jonas Taylor is called back in action and ready to explore an ancient ecosystem and to ride a jet ski into battle with a megalodon. Deepest, bluest, The Meg 2 looks like a silly roller coaster ride that that’s ready to dump a ton of blood into the sea.

In the long awaited final chapter of Antoine Fuqua’s franchise, Denzel Washington returns as ex-Marine and ex-DIA officer Robert McCall, who has found peace in a small Italian village. When the mafia attacks his friends and neighbors, McCall has to break out the wristwatch timer and commit some gorgeously-filmed vigilante justice. It’s a reunion for Washington and Man on Fire protectee Dakota Fanning, and an action flick important enough to consider September a summer month.

Barbie
Much like the Spider-People, Greta Gerwig’s film about the iconic fashion doll from 1959 features many incarnations of Barbie and Ken with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling (really, who else?) taking center stage as the classic plastic types. When they’re booted from Barbieland, they roadtrip to the real world in search of happiness. The movie looks like an absolute blast and marks the first time a director has followed-up a Little Women adaptation with a Mattel toy movie.
