CHAPTER 1
St. Petersburg
BRUISER WOLF
“Our duality and our balance was key ... Nu age is a lifestyle.”
In St. Petersburg, FL, Nü Age Syndicate is bringing together cerebral and street thanks to Chester Watson and Kent Loon, the trendsetters at the center of the crew. Like Yin and Yang, Chester and Kent strike the balance at the heart of Nü Age that could take their sound beyond St. Pete.
"Van Buren is deeper than rap – and it's just beautiful to be a part of it, as you can see."
Van Buren Records is a collective of high-energy young Black artists that has emerged from Brockton, MA, the only majority-Black city in New England. Brockton might be off the typical hip-hop map – 5 hours from NYC, an hour from Boston – but VB plans to change all that.
"Maybe they don’t get it right now… But maybe in 10 years people are gonna be like ‘Yo, you was on something..."
Koreatown native, Koreatown Oddity aka Dominc Purdy is a rapper, producer, filmmaker, writer, and humorist who finds himself at the center of a city where creativity is never in short supply, but true creative expression is limited. His super power is the ability to cultivate community through his unbounded creativity. But is there room for someone with such expansive creative vision - K-Town intends to prove there is...
"One thing about growth, it’s easier said than done…."
Be.N Reilly and the Abstract Media Collective are a group of young artists with individual styles based out of Atlanta, GA. Their journey is one of personal growth, taking lessons over the years and learning the power of collective energy, dedication, and supporting each other in their moment - right now as B.eN’s album latest release takes off.
"A lot of the people I was around, I could just see the potential... It’s what draws me to the people around me too... the people are like real characters."
True artists, MIKE and his 10K collective are not only igniting a new strain of contemporary New York hip-hop, they are creating safe spaces for artists to come up in. For MIKE, making music is all about being real and cultivating community, not about being perfect and chasing success. Watch as MIKE and his crew take us on a journey through their city and see these living legends in their moment.
