We have over 60,000 thoughts a day, according to Dr. Fred Luskin of Stanford University. But are we actually conscious about what we’re thinking and how it influences our lives?
As a life coach, I work with people all over the world to help them live their best lives and become happier, more confident, and soul fulfilled. Whether it’s in their career, passions, business, or even relationships — the key to success starts with mindset.
Your mindset is so influential because it shapes your perception and the way you experience the world. It’s the difference between living a 10/10 life and an 11/10 life. Think of it this way, it’s like you were born with a supercomputer in your head, except it didn’t come with a manual. That’s where life coaching comes in.
Below, I’m sharing the five things I teach all my clients about how to harness the power of their mindset:

I’m a Life Coach and These Are 5 Ways I Teach My Clients to Unlock Their Full Potential
Want to change your life? First, become aware of your thoughts
Self-awareness is the starting point for self-improvement because you can’t change what you don’t know. Without a starting point, how do you know what to do and where you want to go? The more you know about yourself, the better you can make clearer decisions and have fewer blind spots in your life.
Physically writing down your thoughts is a great way to become more aware of your thought patterns. I love using the Journal app on my Windows 11 laptop. Whilst it’s not always possible to journal every day when I’m busy, I use the new Emojis feature in Windows 11 to drop in emojis or GIFs that reflect how I’m feeling, in a pinch.
Likewise, new Windows 11 features like the snap feature and AI powered widgets means I can keep track of multiple things at once, and always have important information at my fingertips.

As William Shakespeare so famously said in Hamlet, “nothing is neither good nor bad, but thinking makes it so.” Mindset matters because everything starts and ends there. Our thoughts create reality because the mind assigns and creates meaning for everything that happens in life.
For example, take a neutral circumstance where everyone in your team at work is assigned a task to complete. You could see this as a good thing because you’ve been wanting a new challenge at work, or you may see this as a negative because you’ve got a lot on your plate.
It’s the age-old dilemma of seeing the glass as half full or half empty. You decide. Noting down how you feel (either digitally or by putting pen to paper), is a good way to keep track of how these situations are making you feel.
Everything in life is circumstantial and neutral, it is your mind that creates meaning
Your thoughts are a product of multiple factors, including your upbringing, your life experiences and the influences of culture, society, media and so forth.
So, if you are not your thoughts, who are you? You are the one who thinks. You are the one who’s aware of your thoughts. You are the witness of your thoughts.
When you understand this fundamental principle, you can take a step back and observe your thoughts curiously. You can disassociate from the inner critic we all have within, to be mindful and kind to yourself.

You are not your thoughts, you are the observer of your thoughts
In order to do your best and give your best, you need to be at your best — and this starts with you. When we put ourselves first, we have more availability and bandwidth to give to others in different areas of our life and that truly is a win-win for everyone.
It can feel difficult to prioritise yourself as, through societal conditioning, many of us believe it’s selfish to do so. Though cliché, it’s true that you should put your own oxygen mask on first, before helping others.
Another way to put it is that you can’t pour from an empty cup. It’s best to give from an overflowing cup.
Put yourself first in order to give 11/10
A growth mindset is a starting point to having an 11/10 mindset, where you approach life dynamically, and where you are presented with many opportunities to learn and grow. It is the understanding that your talents, intelligence, and qualities will develop over time, that you aren’t fixed in where you are right now. When you embrace a growth mindset, life shifts to a win-win situation, always.
In every circumstance, we can learn something to improve for next time.
Working hand-in-hand with a growth mindset is embracing the idea of abundance. An abundance mindset is empowering, because you know there is more than enough for everyone when it comes to resources and success in life. This mindset promotes opportunities, optimism, and collaboration over its opposite, which is a scarcity mindset that’s fearful, limiting, and closed.
When you combine growth and abundance mindsets, you are setting up a strong foundation for your thoughts to be geared towards possibility, success, and gratitude.

Embrace a growth and abundance mindset
