Reliably sweet and fragrant, the Gala has glossy skin and analways-satisfying crunch.
Why we love… Gala
It’s a classic for a reason – Braeburns are good croppers and store well. But what marks them out is flavour – they are deliciously crisp and juicy.
Why we love… Braeburn
This all-time classic English apple is the right combination of sweet and tangy; find it in our British apples mixed bag.
Why we love… Cox
Tom’s family farm in Kent has been growing apples for Lidl for more than a decade. ‘As Lidl grows, so do we,’ he says. The family started with 200 acres in 1946; now, the farm stretches over an impressive 4,000 acres, and is home to 1 million trees! ‘It’s a particularly good place for growing, the garden of England,’ says Tom. The harvest itself lasts eight weeks and all of Tom’s apples go into cold storage to ensure a crisp freshness for longer. ‘The cold storage is really high tech,’ explains Tom. ‘It’s quite exciting as it helps advance shelf life and extend the British apple season.’
Our Kent-based apple grower, Tom, wants everyone to love these crisp, British treasures

Not only are they nutritious, I believe they are the sweetest vegetable apart from a sugar beet! I enjoy mine honey-roasted to bring out the natural taste.
Carrots are really sweet.
A nice, just-mature carrot is not too large; carrots that are smaller in size offer a sweeter bite and a more intense flavour.
Size matters.
We’re so used to seeing carrots for sale all year round, but they are in their prime – sweet, crunchy and delicious – from now right up until Christmas.
They’re at their best now.
Carrots are versatile, inexpensive and long lasting, but that doesn’t mean they’re not special. You can enjoy them raw or cooked, in sweet or savoury dishes – and even juiced. And Neil knows just how to bring out their best. ‘Farmers are caring, patient people – it’s the way they have to be – and that’s rewarded with better crops’. And as carrots grow all year round, that means working no matter the weather – packing them as quickly as possible so they reach the shelves at their best. So what are three things he wants us to know about these kitchen heroes?
Farm manager Neil has worked for Lidl's root veg supplier in Norfolk for 25 years

A) Tenderstem is a hybrid of Chinese kale and broccoli, so it’s more delicate in flavour than regular broccoli and cooks more quickly. It has a sweet and slightly nutty flavour and thanks to its vibrant colour, slender stems and elegant florets, it looks as good as it tastes.
How is it different to regular broccoli?
Silvia, cattle farmer
Behind the grass-fed British beef at Lidl is passionate farmer Silvia, who’ll stop at nothing to get you the juiciest cut of meat…
Read the article
On our farm, we like traditional, native breeds, such as Herefords, which are easier to rear off grass, as well as Angus and Devons.
Good beef starts with an impressive herd
Our grass-fed cows have a nice life – they’re out in summer, grazing in the fields, roaming amongst bluebells and wandering down by the river, so they’re happy.
Free to roam
When selecting steak, look at the age – the longer a steak is hung, the more tender and flavoursome it is. The flavour of grass-fed beef is lovely, too – look out for a good amount of marbling, which will produce a really nice flavour.
Age is everything
There’s a very good reason why you can count on tender, flavoursome British beef at Lidl. It takes time, effort and devotion to produce consistent results – and Devon-based farmer Silvia and her family refuse to compromise when it comes to ensuring top conditions for their grass-fed cattle. From maintaining verdant fields to rotate her herd through, to hand selecting what ends up on Lidl shelves, Silvia is there at every stage.

When you’re looking for a healthy green veg and fancy something a little more special than regular broccoli, give Tenderstem a go…
A) As the name suggests, the stems are tender enough to be eaten raw in salad, or you can cook them quickly with zero prep beforehand – just steam, roast, air-fry or stir-fry them straight from the pack. Or try griddling – it really comes into its own with a bit of char to contrast with its sweetness.
How do I cook Tenderstem broccoli?
Combine the brown sugar, soy sauce, chilli flakes and cornflour, then add this to the wok. Stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes, until the sauce is sticky and glossy. Serve the stir-fry with the rice.
Return the pan to the heat and add the remaining oil. Add the ginger and Tenderstem for and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes, until the broccoli is tender, adding a splash of water to prevent sticking. Return the steak to the pan, along with the mangetout for and continue to stir-fry for a couple of minutes.
Heat 1 tablespoon of the chilli oil in a large frying pan or wok for and fry the spring onions and garlic for 2-3 minutes, before adding the beef. Stir-fry for 2 minutes to brown, then remove to a plate.

For the cobweb decoration, heat the marshmallows in a bowl in the microwave for 30 second bursts, until melted. Leave until cool enough to handle, then take a teaspoonful of the mixture between your fingers and stretch it until it looks like a web. Lay it on top of the icing. Repeat until the cakes are covered in cobwebs.
For the frosting, put the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 30 seconds bursts until melted. Set aside to cool completely. Put the butter in a large bowl and whisk until soft. Add half the icing sugar and whisk until smooth, then add the remaining icing sugar and whisk until fully incorporated. Whisk in the cooled melted chocolate, then add enough milk to get a smooth piping consistency. Spoon into a piping bag fitted with a star nozzle and pipe a swirl of icing on top of each cake.
Preheat the oven to 180°C, fan 160°C, gas 4 and line a muffin tin with 10 deep muffin cases. Whisk together the brown sugar, eggs, oil, zest and vanilla. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and cinnamon for . Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and whisk until smooth, then fold through the squash. Spoon into the cases and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until risen and golden and a skewer inserted into the cakes comes out clean. It takes years to grow an orchard and to make and age cider, meaning each type is special and unique. Discover the right one for you and it will become your favourite autumn tipple
£2.99
4x440ml, 4.5% ABV, 17p/100ml
Cider is as autumnal as falling leaves and there are few things better than drinking a refreshing glass with your Sunday roast or when you get back from a bracing walk. But which one will you like best? There are ciders made from apples and those that include other fruit. Then there’s scrumpy – cider that’s unfiltered, left longer to mellow, and has more than a hint of tang – or something that’s sweeter, fruitier and bubblier. Our shelves are filled with varieties to try – from sweet to dry and everything inbetween. Here are our top five picks, why not try a few when the weekend begins?
Darker nights are a great excuse for cosy evenings in, and if you’re entertaining friends, you can trust a bottle of our Mosel Riesling to get the good times flowing. We’re proud to say that this fresh and fruity bottle is Britain’s best selling Riesling and has picked up a silver IWSC award. It’s a must-try for any white wine fan.Experts say that Riesling is the queen of white wine grapes, and the vines for ours grow in Germany’s famed Mosel region. We only use ripe and healthy grapes, giving a white with delicate aromas of peach and grapefruit with a mineral touch. If you’re hosting a dinner do, pair it with Asian dishes, pasta and white meats – or it’s super simply as an aperitif.
Our brilliant everyday wine range has plenty going on, but if you fancy something new, we also offer monthly, specially curated Wine Tour collections throughout the year. Each bottle in the collection is cherry-picked by our independent lead taster and Master of Wine, Richard Bampfield, for their quality and good value. But be quick, these exceptional drops are available for a limited time only. Don’t miss the New World Wine Tour, in stores from 28 September.
