Brown Under-Eye Dark Circles
Whether your extracurricular time is dedicated to baking banana bread or looking after kiddos, trying to add a bit more self care into your day is never a bad idea. With that goal in mind, three Well+Good staffers set out to use their free time to address a few skin concerns—namely, fine lines and dark under-eye circles—using Kiehl’s products from Sephora.
Properly addressing your skin concerns requires knowing what’s causing them, which is why they hit up Shamara Bondaroff, Kiehl’s Consulting Esthetician, for the intel on orchestrating their glow ups.
First up: differentiating between blue and brown under-eye dark circles. “Usually, blue under-eye dark circles are lifestyle-related (from things like too little sleep) or from excess fluid under the eyes,” Bondaroff says. “Brown under-eye dark circles are more pigment-related, so they can be genetic and can darken from sun exposure. Both can worsen with age and can be exacerbated by puffiness.”
Armed with that info, keep reading to find out what self-care rituals (including skin care, of course) these Well+Good staffers are adding to their routines.
This is the skin concern I tackled now that I’m making more time for my self-care routine

My usual approach to self care is to do it at high speed—i.e. sprinting from a yoga class to a coffee date with friends rather than soaking in a bubble bath. But lately I’ve had more time to cook real recipes, work on puzzles, and finally establish a skin-care routine. My skin is loving the break from makeup, but without my usual concealer, I’ve been noticing my blue under-eye dark circles more (shout out to seeing myself on Zoom all day), which is why I’ve started using Kiehl’s Powerful-Strength Dark Circle Reducing Vitamin C Eye Serum. It goes on super smooth (which makes me feel like a self-care queen every time I dab it on), and after just a week, I noticed how the 10 percent pure vitamin C was helping brighten my sleepy-looking eyes. Plus, the serum has a sneaky bonus feature: Because I don’t want to work against its dark-circle-fighting properties, I’m more motivated to get eight hours of sleep every night.

It’s nice to have a little me-time ritual to start and end the day with—to help me keep up with my toddler.
“
Over the past few weeks as I’ve been working on establishing my family’s routine, I’ve been prioritizing doing small things to invest in my own well-being, like drinking extra water, getting more sleep, going for runs to get some fresh air, and staying consistent with my skin-care routine. On the skin-care front, I’ve just recently started to have brown under-eye dark circles, thanks to my energetic, almost-2-year-old daughter and typically inconsistent sleep schedule. So while I tend to mix up my regimen a lot because I like to try new things, I’ve been sticking with a few products—including the Powerful-Strength Dark Circle Reducing Vitamin C Eye Serum to help correct those dark circles with 10 percent pure vitamin C. The hyaluronic acid in the serum makes it feel really moisturizing, and the tri peptides help reduce puffiness, according to Bondaroff. Sticking to a skin-care routine that makes my skin look and feel bright has really been helping brighten my days.
“
My mood has been in flux over the past few weeks, so it’s been really important for me to create a routine that makes me feel positive and ready to take on the day. My main focus is lots and lots (and lots) of stretching, and setting a skin-care regimen that makes me feel refreshed, including adding Kiehl’s Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate and Powerful-Strength Dark Circle Reducing Vitamin C Eye Serum into the mix. Fine lines and wrinkles were never really a top concern for me until I started noticing them more over the past year, specifically on my forehead and around my eyes. The vitamin C gives me a radiance boost all over, and the hyaluronic acid helps smooth my fine lines out without feeling heavy on my skin—so I look forward to using both serums every day. Sticking to a skin-care routine that makes my skin look and feel bright—and other morning rituals like making my coffee at the same time and tuning into a yoga class I love—has really been helping brighten my days.

Powerful-Strength Dark Circle Reducing Vitamin C Eye Serum
The Powerful-Strength Dark Circle Reducing Vitamin C Eye Serum was clinically proven to reduce the appearance of dark circles after seven days in a U.S. clinical study.
“The Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate is very firming and brightening and reduces the appearance of pores,” Bondaroff says. “So, even if you’re not dealing with fine lines, it’s a great day and night option.”
“I especially love the eye serum’s Tri-Peptide Complex because it effectively reduces puffiness over time,” Bondaroff says.
