Being Exhausted Is Changing Us in Ways We’re Just Beginning
to Understand
Take a deep breath. Exhale. Feel more relaxed?
In our overbooked, overworked, and under-slept environment, even pausing for a moment can be followed with a wallop of guilt—I should have done something more productive.
Rest is a privilege, but it should be a right. Embracing downtime means breaking free of daily stressors, and who has that luxury? The ability to step away from your screen, turn off your phone, and truly recharge is too often reserved for a mere week or two of vacation each year, if you’re fortunate enough.
And all those other times? What of the sleepless nights when parents can’t just “clock out” on their families, or of the financially critical jobs many can’t just quit from burn out? While we can’t purport to have all the solutions, in Well+Good’s Rest Issue, we did seek to ask all the questions. Rest is about so much more than a good night of sleep—although that’s definitely part of it—and we hope these stories encourage you to explore all the ways you can relax, unwind, and then return to your life fully charged.
Here’s to being well-rested.
