If the injury assessment leads to recommended professional medical care, and the injured employee agrees, a tele-medicine consultation with a doctor is arranged through a computer or mobile device. The doctor will evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe the appropriate medications and give work restrictions if needed.
For non-emergent injuries when the need for medical care is in question.
West Bend's Silver Lining NURSEAdvantage provides a triage solution to injured workers and supervisors where and when it matters ...
... immediately following the occurrence of a non-emergency type injury in the workplace. This service ensures injured workers receive medical treatment, if necessary, while minimizing the normal disruptions associated with leaving the facility to receive care. Employers and their supervisors maintain control of the reporting process, accident investigation process, post-accident drug testing – if applicable, OSHA reporting, and internal claim management processes. Silver Lining NURSEAdvantage is another tool employers can use to emphasize care for the injured employee, while controlling costs of their workers' compensation claims.
Immediately following a call to Silver Lining NURSEAdvantage, the West Bend nurse sends an electronic copy of the First Report of Injury and Incident report to the supervisor or insured, management representative, and to the agent or agency if requested. Additionally, West Bend will set up the claim on the employer's behalf.
When a call comes in to Silver Lining NURSEAdvantage, it's immediately routed to a West Bend nurse who works with the supervisor and injured employee to assess the injury. Using a comprehensive injury decision tree, the nurse will guide the injured employee to the appropriate care protocol, which could be self-care, professional medical care provided at an offsite medical facility, or a tele-medicine consultation. If self-care is indicated, self-care instructions are provided to the injured employee and employer. If the injured employee opts for care at an offsite medical facility, the nurse has access to the applicable PPO network to help the employee get access to the appropriate care. All calls to a nurse are recorded.

If an injured employee experiences a non-emergent injury, such as a contusion, abrasion, or small cut, or other soft tissue injury, and reports it to his or her direct supervisor, they can decide to call Silver Lining NURSEAdvantage together to get nurse assistance in assessing whether medical care is needed. While initiating the claim, this call also serves as the First Report of Injury, requiring no further notification action by the employer.
