ORIENTATION AND ONBOARDING
New Message: Jordan
With Workday, it’s easy for managers to communicate with their employees in many ways.
Wahoo! I got the job at Gotham Media Services!
Meet Gavin. He recently graduated from Louisiana State University.
Thanks! What do I need to do to get started?
Hey, Gavin. Welcome to the team!
Gavin’s new manager at Gotham, Jordan, assigns him pre-onboarding questions and materials in Workday to get him up to speed before his first day.
Joey adds a new Text Note to the video to explain the problematic topic.
Joey looks at reports and sees that his new salespeople aren’t understanding an important concept.
After he answers the second question, the video continues.
Now he’s presented with a follow-up asking him to elaborate on his answer.
Gavin chooses the correct answer and continues.
While he’s watching the video, he’s prompted to answer a question to make sure he’s understanding the concepts.
Gavin opens Workday Learning to watch the Sales 101 video.
Gavin gets started in Sales by watching training videos.
SALES TRAINING
I’ll add a note with a more detailed explanation.
Hmm, the reports tell me that my team isn’t quite understanding this concept.
Joey can take everyone’s feedback and quiz results into consideration to make sure that they’re ready to sell, sell, sell!
Cool—I can rate the training videos and leave comments.
Getting feedback and embedding quizzes throughout the videos are important to Joey. And Gavin can review ratings from his peers to see which videos would be most helpful.
Oh yeah, I need to watch my training videos.
Workday makes it easy (and fun) to create, edit, and distribute learning videos. Joey, the VP of Sales, creates a video series in Workday to give his new salespeople all the info they need.
After Jordan submits the feedback, it shows up in Gavin’s profile.
Jordan can also mark it as private so only Gavin sees it.
Jordan enters his feedback for Gavin.
He selects the option to leave Gavin feedback.
Jordan selects Gavin’s profile.
Then he opens the Team dashboard to view his direct reports.
Jordan logs into Workday.
The Opportunity Graph provides an overview of the job he’s interested in and the qualifications needed to make the switch.
Gavin uses the Opportunity Graph to see which jobs people like him take next.
After Gavin spends some time in Sales, it’s time to think about his next move.
OPPORTUNITY GRAPHS AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT
Employees can also explore the career paths of their peers and see which jobs they took on next.
Wow—I can see which roles other salespeople moved to!
Managers can give their employees feedback through Workday and nurture them along their career paths.
Workday makes it easy for managers to map out their employees’ career development and track their progress.
Based on your career interests, you should focus on these three skills.
Logan can easily see who has opened the email as well as who has completed the training.
Logan successfully launches the campaign, including the course and the reminder email.
Logan schedules the reminder email for one month before the training must be completed.
Next, Logan adds a reminder email to the campaign to prompt those who have not yet completed the training course to do so.

Create Campaign
Logan selects , then to add the course to the campaign.
As Gavin continues in his career, it’s important that he stays up-to-date with mandatory training.
Campaign Tracking and Reminders
Workday allows HR administrators like Logan to notify employees of mandatory training by setting up a required learning campaign.
I need to make sure everyone takes the Data Privacy course soon!
Reminder: Data Privacy Training
Whoops, I better do the Data Privacy training today!
Oh, boy...so many people still need to complete this training. Time to send out a reminder.
HR administrators can check in on their campaign to see who hasn’t completed the required training.
Great! Gavin just completed his training.
When Logan opens her dashboard, she can see the progress of her campaign and the effectiveness of the reminders.
Logan (HR partner) creates a Workbook with relocation info for Gavin.
And then reviews by worker.
She reviews travel expenses by line of business to understand the source of the expense.
The financial analyst takes a look at the Sales and Marketing Financial Performance report to make sure GMS is on track for the year.
With Gavin’s new skill set in place, it’s time for him to take on a new role in his rotational program. This requires a cross-country move.
RELOCATION
And because reporting and analytics in Workday are based on real-time transactional data, all expenses are immediately reflected in financial reports.
Co-editing spreadsheets makes it easy for managers and HR administrators to plan a big relocation together.
With Workday worksheets, HR administrators and managers can plan, model, and communicate, making relocations a breeze.
It looks like this move will only cost $5,000. Perfect!
Luckily, Gavin doesn’t have much to move so I think we can do it in one moving truck.
Don’t worry. Together we can make his move smooth and cost-effective.
Gavin is excited to move across the country, but there are a lot of details to sort out first.
STORY CONCLUSION
