Water Bill Validation and Cost Recovery
Customer Overview
Leach Steelwork had been paying significant surface water charges for many years at the Lancashire head office. However, the company did not have the time nor expertise to investigate and challenge these charges. They also had concerns over the possibility of the charges increasing instead of decreasing due to uncertainty over the surface water audit process. Thus, Leach Steelwork was looking for an expert partner to validate the accuracy of their water fees.
Challenge
World Kinect undertook the surface and highways water audit work (on a shared savings basis), removing the risk for Leach Structural Steelwork should we not be able to deliver savings.
World Kinect Solution
World Kinect conducted some preliminary desk top work to establish the basis of the surface water charges and compared this to the actual physical site to eliminate the possibility of increasing the surface water charges.
Quickly, World Kinect realised the highway water charges would increase as the site footprint was larger than expected.
In order to deliver savings, we needed to be sure the surface water charges would be removed both historically and moving forward. To prove this, we conducted multiple physical site surveys to provide conclusive evidence that the surface water leaving the site did not actually enter the water companies’ drains.
As a result of the completed surface water audit and surveys, we managed to secure a 6-year refund on the surface water charges totaling £140,000.
The ongoing saving for the Leach is approx. £8,000 per annum, even after accounting for the increase in the highway water charges.
In these challenging times when many business costs are on the increase, the refund and ongoing savings are a welcome relief for the customer.

World Kinect managed the whole water audit process from start to finish, the process could not be simpler from our perspective. Time is a valuable commodity, and the time we invested in this process versus the refund and savings was impressive. We would highly recommend anyone thinking of using World Kinect - not to hesitate.”

After multiple dye tests and sonic testing, we managed to map and prove that all surface water leaving site did not enter the water companies’ drains. In fact, it accessed private drains and a local water course.
