Customer Overview
Skanska aims to reduce its emissions by 70% by 2030. Skanska will further that goal by achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2045. To achieve this, Skanska looked for a partner to help reduce their carbon emissions through the provisioning of more sustainable fuel.
Challenge
World Kinect devised a test in the use of R99 renewable diesel, introducing the biofuel to a handful of equipment that allowed Skanska to quantify and monitor the benefits on a small scale, before expanding the scope of this operation to achieve its emissions goals in the longer term.
World Kinect Solution
World Kinect provided a fully supplied fuel storage cube for Skanska’s L300 Lynnwood Link Extension project site in Seattle, Washington. This provided a convenient and consistent source of fuel to power selected machines immediately without delays, mimicking the process of using regular fuels.
Skanska tested the use of the R99 renewable, second-generation biofuel in three of its L300 project machines.
World Kinect handled the logistics of procurement and delivery, ensuring consistent and efficient operations for Skanska.

footprint
Skanska successfully used over 3,000 gallons of R99 renewable diesel in the first 12 months.
The use of 3,000 gallons of R99 has reduced over 30 metric tonnes of tailpipe greenhouse gas emissions from Skanska’s equipment in the 12 months of implementation.
The R99 fuel used is non-palm-oil derived to help prevent deforestation and protect natural habitats
MEASURABLE PROGRESS TOWARD SUSTAINABILITY GOALS
Skanska's partnership with World Kinect demonstrates the benefits of using R99 renewable diesel to help reduce emissions. Our hope is to expand the use of this fuel and this relationship to other projects to help us achieve our sustainability goals and ultimately contribute to a cleaner, healthier society."
