Fuel Carbon Offsets
Customer Overview
Schiphol was looking for a partner to deliver an energy management program that prioritized sustainability and carbon reduction. Specifically, Schiphol sought assistance in becoming carbon neutral in order to reach the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) Level 3+ status – a valuable public recognition of carbon reduction achievements.
Challenge
World Kinect provided detailed project analyses for a range of fuel carbon offset programs, all focusing on environmental integrity and social co-benefits. All were Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects, certified as Gold Standard, fulfilling the criteria of ACA level 3+ accreditation.
World Kinect Solution
As a source of carbon offset credits, World Kinect recommended a series of innovative environmental projects that reduce GHG emissions through utilizing technologies such as efficient lighting, biogas, methane from landfills, small solar (off-grid), small hydro (run-of-river), geothermal, biomass, and even cook stove options.
Schiphol purchased the carbon offsets from a Gold Standard solar project in India.
World Kinect provided the monitoring report, the project design document, the host country approval letter, the Gold Standard Certificate, and the Carbon Neutrality certificate to Schiphol.
World Kinect meets with the Schiphol team on a monthly basis to discuss ways to maintain and improve its energy purchase strategy, and to provide advisory services to ensure Schiphol’s carbon footprint continuous to be carbon neutral.
Schiphol achieved carbon neutral fuel operations (Scope 1) and was recognized by the Airport Council International Europe with the Eco-Innovation Award because of their integrated sustainability approach that features CO2-neutral operations, circular economy principles, and the use of renewable energy.
