We partnered with Neoen, an independent producer of exclusively renewable energy to deliver this feasibility study. Once the plant is constructed, it’ll be one of the first commercial-scale renewable hydrogen to ammonia nitrate facilities in the world and will run on electricity from a wind, solar or battery hybrid farm.

Moving production in-house

We found the plant could produce 20,000 tons of ammonia every year to be used for mining operations from 3,600 tons of renewable hydrogen. This could produce 20 percent of the natural gas based ammonia used by QNP, which it would otherwise buy from third parties.

How to produce renewable hydrogen at scale

We carried out a feasibility study for Queensland Nitrates (QNP) to understand the viability of producing renewable (green) hydrogen at commercial scale at an existing manufacturing plant. We looked at how renewable hydrogen could be fed into a new ammonia plant, which then would follow into an ammonium nitrate chemical facility.
