Women Warriors Summit
During the week of September 18, 2023, more than 50 WWP women warriors from across the country traveled to Washington, DC, to participate in the 2023 Women Warriors Summit. The summit was an opportunity for women warriors to advocate for legislation to improve the lives of our nation’s women veterans.
The cornerstone of the summit was the release of the 2023 Women Warriors Report, a biennial study to help policymakers better support women warriors.
Major Richard Star Act
Almost 53,000 veterans are being denied their full retirement benefits, despite having to medically retire due to combat-related injuries. WWP is actively advocating for the passage of the Major Richard Star Act, working to ensure that these veterans receive the benefits they have rightfully earned through their extraordinary sacrifices.

WWP Asks Congress to Tackle Needs of Wounded Veterans
On March 6, 2024, WWP testified before the Senate and House Committees on Veterans' Affairs, and implored Congress to support issues directly affecting our nation’s veterans and advocating for legislation that will make a significant impact on the lives of those we serve.

The WWP Government Affairs team is actively supporting key legislation for veterans, families, and caregivers. WWP launched a campaign urging Congress to pass the Major Richard Star Act, ensuring medically retired veterans receive full retirement benefits for combat-related injuries.
Additionally, WWP partnered with the Elizabeth Dole Foundation to back the Dole Act, a comprehensive bill to improve VA services. We also welcomed the next group of Warrior Advocate Leaders to help drive community-level advocacy efforts.

Women Warriors Initiative
Women represent the fastest-growing population in military service and the veteran community — stepping up to serve in new, critical, and formidable roles. While they are impressively breaking down barriers, women warriors still experience unique challenges and gaps in care.
In 2020, WWP surveyed nearly 5,000 women warriors and held more than a dozen roundtable discussions to learn more about these challenges and propose policy-centered solutions.
The Results Are In
Wounded Warrior Project’s Annual Warrior Survey is the largest, most comprehensive survey of post-wounded 9/11 veterans, which gives warriors the ability to have their needs heard and to share their successes.
The data obtained in this survey helps WWP and the Government Affairs team better understand the evolving needs of warriors and informs the areas we should focus on for our advocacy efforts.

The WWP Government Affairs team has been hard at work over the past quarter, and we have much to reflect on. In April, we were honored to testify before the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, Subcommittee on Health. We were also honored to have warriors hosted by President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden at the White House for our annual Soldier Ride event.
WWP also hosted a series of roundtable discussions with women warriors from across the country to discuss the critical issues impacting their community.
