The prosperity Central North Carolina enjoys did not happen spontaneously. Dedicated, proactive leaders envisioned a hub of innovation, dedicated a strategic location, and worked to attract giants of industry. Today, we call that region Research Triangle Park, and it is just one of the thriving hubs of innovation in Central North Carolina.
The Thrive Central NC Movement is an effort bringing dedicated individuals and institutions from Central North Carolina together to establish and promote a roadmap for coordinated growth to ensure equitable access to jobs, accessible transportation, affordable housing, land coordination, and sustainability for this great region.

Impacts of Past and Future Growth
The region is experiencing tremendous economic development and population growth, requiring coordinated efforts to address infrastructure needs, particularly in areas outside the traditional urban core.To accommodate this growth, we seek to ensure decisions that transcend boundaries and benefit all.
The absence of a regional land use vision and plan since 1969 has led to challenges in coordinating land use strategies between local governments and anchor institutions. Thrive Central NC aims to establish a regional strategy for land use and its influential impact on nearly all other disciplines.
Despite economic success, a significant portion of the population in the region experiences different forms of poverty. The movement will develop strategies to address issues that lead to economic hardships, such as lack of accessible transit and housing opportunities, with a focus on underserved communities.
The demand for diverse housing options is outpacing supply, leading to rapid increases in rental and home costs. To have sustained growth, these housing issues must be addressed proactively. With a shared vision and a pragmatic approach, we can create a model of equitable housing solutions which will allow everyone to participate in our robust economy.
The region is at a critical juncture regarding transit and transportation projects, requiring coordinated efforts to provide sustainable mobility choices and mitigate issues like affordable housing and displacement concerns.

The prosperity and fertile economy Central North Carolina enjoy did not happen spontaneously. Dedicated, proactive leaders envisioned a hub of innovation, dedicated a strategic location, and worked to attract giants of industry. Today, we call that region Research Triangle Park, and it is just one of the thriving hubs of innovation in Central North Carolina. Now, on the dawn of unprecedented potential, it is more important than ever for local governments and institutions to work together. When entities operate in strict isolation, unintended consequences may arise which collectively lower the quality of life for everyone. Local priorities and vulnerabilities can cause a limited perspective and create growth barriers, environmental strains, transportation difficulties and other wide-reaching issues. We all want this region to continue to be the best it can be for our children and grandchildren. Amidst rapid and complex growth, we need to work together to make that happen.
