Notify your healthcare provider and your hospital about your decision to collect cord blood (and cord tissue). You should also add it to your birth plan.
Give the collection kit you received in the mail to your labor and delivery nurse upon admission to the hospital.
Cord blood collection is generally still possible with delayed cord clamping for 30 to 60 seconds.2
After the cord is cut, your healthcare provider performs the cord blood collection. This often takes several minutes, and is a simple collection process for both mom and baby.
Hospital pickup is available 24/7. Your partner or support person can make the call, just be sure they have your personal information handy.
Transport time to the lab in Tucson, AZ, takes about a day (this time can vary). Your sample will have a unique barcode so CBR can keep track of your sample.
Stem cells are stored in CBR’s facility at approximately -196°C. Samples are monitored 24/7 with regular temperature and environment checks.
You’ll receive a Certificate of Deposit to confirm the stem cells were stored successfully.
