Where to Find It
Of all the macronutrients we can consume (carbohydrates, fats, and protein), protein is the building block for growth and repair, which is essential when we put our bodies through movements that enhance strength, like Pilates (Carbone & Pasiakos, 2019). Building strength, especially for women, is paramount when it comes to a body that moves and functions well through your lifespan. Protein also aids in regulating hormones, boosting your immunity, and supports weight management since protein helps you stay full longer compared to other macronutrients (University Hospitals, 2025).
Before class: A blend of carbohydrates and protein are best before class to give your body energy for your workout. Greek yogurt with half a banana, nut butter on toast, or some hardboiled eggs with an apple would fuel you well.
Why Protein Matters
How Pilates Supported My Triathlon Training
In Honor of Men's Health Month
June may be Men’s Health Month, but wellness isn’t confined to a moment— it’s a year round experience. Physical health and mental well-being go hand in hand, and for Club Pilates member Ricardo Rodriguez, Pilates became an essential part of both. Adding pilates to his triathlon training routine became a game changer.
As a triathlete, Ricardo spends countless hours swimming, cycling, and running—sports that place repetitive stress on the body. While endurance is essential, he realized that improving performance wasn’t just about training harder; it was about training smarter.
"Pilates gave me something I wasn't getting from swimming, biking, and running alone," he says. "It strengthened the smaller stabilizing muscles, improved my core strength, and helped me move more efficiently."
Core strength plays a critical role in every stage of a triathlon, from maintaining body position in the water to supporting posture on the bike and improving running mechanics as fatigue sets in. Rather than isolating large muscle groups, Pilates challenged Ricardo's body to work as one integrated system.
Training Smarter, Not Just Harder
"The biggest thing I noticed was improved body awareness and control," he explains. "I became more conscious of how I was moving, which helped me maintain better form throughout training and races."

Mobility also became a key benefit. Years of cycling had left him with tight hips, limited thoracic mobility, and muscular imbalances, all of which Pilates helped address through improved flexibility, joint mobility, and balanced strength. As a result, he moved more freely, recovered faster, and experienced fewer aches and pains during training.
Beyond the physical benefits, Pilates strengthened Ricardo's mental game. The precision, focus, and control required in every class improved his concentration and reinforced the mind-body connection—skills that translated directly into competition.
Improving Mobility and Recovery
Just as importantly, Pilates provided him 50 minutes dedicated to slowing down mindful movement. That intentional pause has become an essential part of Ricardo's overall wellness.
"Pilates forces you to be in the moment," Ricardo says. "You have to focus on your breathing, your movement, and your form. That mental focus carries over into every part of my training. It's become part of how I take care of myself physically and mentally."
Strengthening the Mind-Body Connection
For many men, conversations around health have traditionally centered on physical performance. But true wellness also includes managing stress, prioritizing recovery, and creating balance. Pilates supports all of those goals by building strength while encouraging mindfulness, intentional movement, and self-awareness.
Ricardo's journey is a reminder that investing in your health isn't only about preparing for your next race or reaching a fitness milestone. It's about building habits that support strength, resilience, mobility, and mental well-being for years to come.
Redefining Men's Wellness
Shannon Geltner's Story of Strength, Resilience & Community
Cancer Survivor Month Spotlight
When Shannon Geltner, General Manager of Club Pilates Preston Hollow and soon-to-be General Manager of Club Pilates Lake Highlands, was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 2024, everything changed.
Just weeks earlier, after an abnormal mammogram and three biopsies, Shannon learned she had ER/PR-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer. The diagnosis came as a complete shock.
Throughout chemotherapy, radiation, surgeries, and recovery, one thing remained constant: movement. Despite the physical and emotional toll of treatment, Shannon never stopped coming to Pilates.
Choosing Movement Through Treatment
One Class at a Time
"It felt like a death sentence," she recalls. "Then I got angry because I was in the best shape of my life. I had just lost 40 pounds, I was taking Pilates three times a week, and walking regularly. I felt like I was doing everything right."
Cancer doesn't discriminate.
"I kept going to Pilates and walking for my mental health. I never stopped moving."
Redefining What It Means to Survive
Today, Shannon says survivorship isn't a finish line.
"I feel like I'm still becoming a survivor. I'm still at the hospital every week, still getting infusions, still navigating the fear that cancer could return."
Following a double mastectomy and later choosing an aesthetic flat closure instead of reconstruction, Shannon is continuing to rebuild strength and mobility with patience.
"I'm learning my new body. I have limitations, but I'm diligently working on them. I have to dig deep for patience with myself."
Shannon has been part of the Club Pilates family since 2017, when a friend introduced her to Teacher Training. After earning her certification, she joined Club Pilates Colleyville as General Manager and has since spent nearly a decade helping members discover the transformative power of Pilates.
Throughout her cancer journey, the Club Pilates community became one of her greatest sources of strength. From instructors who offered modifications and hugs during treatment, to clients who organized meal trains, thoughtful gifts, and endless encouragement, Shannon says the support reminded her she was never alone.
"There are no words to describe the support I've received from my staff, clients, and franchise owners. They never doubted me. The kindness has been overwhelming, and I'm forever grateful."
Finding Strength in the Club Pilates Community
Pilates continues to provide more than strength and mobility. It supports Shannon's mental health, improves her stability, and even helps relieve chronic back pain caused by spinal degeneration.
Looking back, one of the biggest lessons she's learned is simple, but powerful:
"One day at a time. Be gentle on yourself. Advocate for yourself. Speak up and ask for what you need."
Healing Beyond the Physical
Though Cancer Survivor’s Month has passed, we honor Shannon and every survivor, every fighter, every caregiver, and every person navigating life after a cancer diagnosis.
While everyone’s journey looks different, every step forward is an intentional step towards strength, resilience, and renewed positivity
To our incredible Club Pilates community—thank you for creating a space where healing, movement, and hope can exist together. Shannon's story is a powerful reminder that while Pilates builds strength in the body, it's the community that helps strengthen the spirit.
Honoring Every Survivor
