We are thrilled you are interested in joining the YogaSix teaching team! This is the Y6 On-Ramp, your opportunity to get a taste of who we are, what we do, and show us what it’s like to practice with you.
The Y6 Class Experience
Every class experience at YogaSix is energizing, empowering, and fun.
What You Say Matters!
At YogaSix, we're obsessed with dynamic language. What you say has a HUGE impact on the student experience. It's so important to us that 3 of the Top Six Teaching Methodology components are related to how teachers use language and organize their cues.
Clear & Simple Cues
Who hasn't felt like those kiddos after delivering a cue in class that just doesn't land? Watch the video below to learn about Dynamic Language, one of the teaching techniques YogaSix teachers apply during class.

Using clear, direct, and succinct cues will have a major impact on how students respond to your instructions during class.

What We're Looking For
Here are some things we're going to be looking for in your demo video:
Teach Don't Tell
Clear & Concise
Transition With Breath
Instruct & Demonstrate
Keep It Simple
YogaSix teachers de-emphasize the pose name. In your demo, challenge yourself to guide students through the postures rather than leading with the pose name. Take them on a journey, don't just show or tell them where they're going.
YogaSix is a vinyasa based studio, and we guide all transitions with breath. In your demo video, we're looking for a breath cue in at least 75% of the transitions in your flow.
YogaSix teachers use straightforward and direct language to facilitate an unbroken thread of a class experience and a more embodied, powerful practice. Say as much as you need to in as few words as possible.
To maintain a connection with what's happening in the room, YogaSix teachers demo about 50% of the class facing students or "mirroring." In your video, demonstrate the poses as you guide and motivate students. (If mirroring is an edge for you right now, don't worry. We can work on it later!)
Y6 Hot is a set sequence, and we want you to use it as a foundation for trying out our methodology. Teach the sequence as it's written. You'll have plenty of time to show us your sequencing skills later!
Your teaching demo is just as much about YOU trying on our methodology for size as it is about us getting a peek into what it’s like to take your class. Read on for info on how and what to record.
FILM YOUR teaching demo
SHOW US WHAT YOU'VE GOT!
1. Set the Stage
Pick a spot to film. Living room, backyard, home studio... as long as we can clearly see and hear you, it works! Playing music in the background can be great to get into the yoga vibe.
Guide us through the Dynamic Warrior Flow from our signature set sequence, Y6 Hot.
Share your name and something interesting about you. What lights your fire?
Lead students through a brief (less than 1 minute) centering.
Wrap up the experience with the closing of your choice.
Remember, we're not looking for perfection! We'd rather work with a teacher with the right personality and a learner's mindset than someone who thinks they've got it figured all out!
Knock Our Socks Off!
