As agency partners are having crucial conversations with farmers and ranchers “in the field,” we’d like to emphasize the importance of promoting equal opportunity in every business exchange and environment. Whether reminding them of their billing date, facilitating a claims question or discussing a Hudson-exclusive product you believe will fit their operation’s risk profile, remember that as an extension of a federally reinsured program (the USDA/RMA), we must work together to ensure equal opportunity is evident in every interaction. Check out some news and refreshers below.
“Pay as Guest” is a feature of our Online Bill Pay functionality that provides non-Hudson system users, such as farm managers or accountants, the ability to make a one-time premium bill payment on behalf of the grower.
A vital billing reminder as the major deadline approaches: Despite the issuance of interest deferral on premium the last few years (due to widespread drought and natural disasters), the RMA is not issuing such flexibility this year.
Premium payments for the applicable billing cycle must be postmarked by 9/30/2024, or the accrued interest will attach on 10/1/2024. Premium is due regardless of whether a claim/indemnity payment is pending or becomes due to the grower after the billing date.
NOTE: If a grower has not received a bill, please reach out to your Hudson Crop Sales Representative immediately.

YOUR BOOTS ON THE GROUND
The passage of the next Farm Bill remains an unknown. Several predictable changes in policy, outlook and funding will undoubtedly take place between now and the Bill’s eventual passage. Though the coming weeks and months may bring tension as debates continue and farmers strive to maintain the means needed to continue producing the food, fuel and fibers needed by this country and the world, take comfort in the knowledge that Hudson Crop will remain your valued partner along the way.
We are following developments in the Farm Bill debate and will be a voice for this vital piece of the agricultural economy. In fact, we continue to put “boots on the ground” for Hudson employees and agency partners, including Ronnetta Rountree (Livestock Insurance Specialist) and Mike Weber (Lead Claims Processor), our very own newly accepted members of the 2024-2025 class of the Crop Insurance and Reinsurance Bureau (CIRB) Emerging Leaders Program (ELP). Hudson has proudly encouraged participation in this valuable opportunity for a handful of years with Ronnetta and Mike as the 9th and 10th employees to represent Hudson on The Hill. For the Record
One of the common “misses” when it comes to records is a mismatch of the insured’s name. Third-party records must have the same name as the policyholder for Hudson to verify insurable interest and insurable share. If records contain a different entity name than that on the policy, it could result in no indemnity payment.
The MC Form does not negate the need for acceptable records, as outlined in the Crop Insurance Handbook (CIH). It simply allows growers without disinterested third-party records to use their record, provided all acceptable records requirements are met.
If pre-harvest appraisals are required by the policy and/or for MC, then the appraisals are still necessary.
If the MC Form is needed and not completed, there is a potential for assigned yields and no indemnity payment on claims.
If the answer is "yes" (to any of the following), the form is needed!
Do I (the grower) produce and insure a crop that packs through my own, or a related person’s packing shed/facility?
Do I have a crop I produce and insure that is a U-Pick Operation?
Do I have a produce stand or sell at a farmer’s market?
Do I produce and insure grapes for my own or family winery?
Do I produce and insure a crop that I wholesale to the grocery market?
What is a Disinterested Third Party?
A "Disinterested Third Party" is generally defined as a person who does not have any familial relationship (parents, brothers, sisters, children, spouse, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, first cousins, or grandparents, related by blood, adoption or marriage) with the insured, or who will not benefit financially from the sale of the insured crop.
The "And Justice for All" Civil Rights Poster
Sometimes even the most rudimentary requirements need a reminder now and again! Don’t forget that this poster must be prominently displayed in all offices receiving federal assistance, including AIPs and their contracted agencies. It must be displayed in the specific size of 11" wide by 17" high because the text becomes small and almost unreadable when printed on typical/letter size of 8.5" x 11".
If you need copies, please contact your Hudson Crop Sales Representative.
Language Assistance
As your valued customer base grows, so does the opportunity to service limited and non-English speaking individuals. Language should not be a barrier when it comes to understanding a policy, process, procedure or any other piece of the federal crop insurance program. This is why we have a specialized Hudson Crop team dedicated to carrying out our Language Assistance Plan (LAP). The chief priority of our in-house Language Assistance Committee is to ensure all agents and growers can expect and receive the same exceptional level of service. We have a variety of resources available to help Limited English Proficiency (LEP) customers, upon request. These resources include but are not limited to: written and oral translation services, an accessibility tool on HudsonCrop.com, “I Speak” materials and more.
NEW! Revised Non-Discrimination Statement (NDS)
As an Approved Insurance Provider (AIP - Hudson), it’s our duty to ensure that standards, procedures, methods and instructions, as authorized by FCIC in the sale and service of crop insurance contracts, are implemented in a manner compliant with Title VI. With this, and as you gear up for 2025, please note the announcement and vital call to action of revising the NDS on all applicable materials for the 2025 crop year and forward.
By requirement, the non-discrimination statement shall be posted in AIP and agent offices, on websites and forms, and in newsletters and advertisements. Additionally, all materials released to the public for distribution, including fact sheets, brochures and any federal crop insurance related materials must include the NDS. The RMA and USDA NDS is always available for reference on the RMA public website.
For respective form and marketing material NDS requirements for 2025, reference Part 5, Section 503 of the Document and Supplemental Standards Handbook. (Note: The shortened version of the NDS remains unchanged. Only the full statement was revised.)

Unpacking Marketing Certification
The Marketing Certification Form was developed for those growers that do not have Disinterested Third-Party records. If they do not have Disinterested Third-Party records for their insured crop, then they need to complete the form by their applicable Acreage Reporting Date.
